Dad admits beating to death of 8-month-old infant son (Troy, Ohio)
Seems dad JASON DURIG had a past history of child abuse. Another child was burned while under his care--a crime that Durig served time for. So why was he allowed around another child? Good question, but note that judges frequently ignore past histories of child abuse when making custody/visitation decisions. With these guys who have a documented criminal history, it's not always clear what their new partners know and when they learned it. Or what their real options were in terms of leaving the relationship safely once they find out--and with full custody of the children. Especially in these days when any father can pretty much get visitation/custody just for the asking.
Notice that Daddy tried to play the mental health card for the beating death of an 8-month-old baby, but eventually dropped it. And they say Moms are the only ones who do this--not even close.

TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - A Troy father admitted to a Miami County judge Monday that he beat his infant son to death. Jason Durig , who once claimed he was insane, now pleads guilty to murder and child endangering.
Durig's crime shocked his Troy neighborhood in July, when his 8-month-old son Calab was found beaten to death. Investigators said not only was Calab covered in blood and bruises, he also had adult bite marks on his body.
Durig originally entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. He's now scheduled for sentencing on January 24, 2011. He faces a mandatory sentence of 15 years to life for the murder charge and between two and eight years for child endangering.
Durig has a dark history when it comes to kids. He served time for burning a child in the past, which raised questions about how he was allowed to be around baby Calab.
Durig's wife, Tara Durig, is facing charges of permitting child abuse and child endangering. Her trial is scheduled for December 14th.
