Dad watches TV while toddler wanders around outside in wet diaper in 4 degree weather (Duluth, Minnesota)

Traditionally, moms have been blamed for basic neglect like this. Partly because mothers have always represented the vast majority of caregivers, so naturally they would represent the majority of neglect cases. But now that daddies are being recruited to do childcare, we're seeing a lot more cases like this one. But UNNAMED DAD is apparently getting off with nothing but a warning after he let his 21-month-old child run around outside in nothing but a wet diaper when it was 4 degree outside. So was dad "babysitting" while Mom worked? Was this during child visitation? Is this a single dad with custody? Who knows, because there is no mention of a mother at all.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

A passing motorist came to the aid of a 21-month-old child who was found running down Tower Avenue on Wednesday afternoon in nothing but a wet diaper.

The temperature was about 4 degrees at the time, according to a Superior Police Department report.

Julie Nelson of Superior was driving southbound along Tower Avenue when she saw the child running down the street right in front of her, according to the report. She stopped and honked her horn to get the boy to stop. Then she parked in the Kenny Wong’s parking lot and wrapped the boy up in her jacket as she waited for officers to arrive.

About the same time, officers received a call from a neighbor who said the boy probably lived at a residence on the 1800 block of Banks Avenue. When Officer Todd Carlson knocked on the door of that residence, the boy’s father said he was watching a movie and the boy must have snuck out.

Carlson checked the child and found no signs of frostbite. He warned the father of the danger the child faced outside from frostbite and passing vehicles.
