"Caretaking" dad convicted of manslaughter in death of infant daughter (Burlington, Kentucky)

Notice that "caretaking" dad BENJAMIN SENSEMAN has been convicted of manslaughter, but the mother, who was also charged, was acquitted.

Also note that Mom was charged EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS WORKING AND WASN'T AT HOME when the baby died.

A father would NEVER have been charged if his girlfriend or the mother had killed the baby while he was work. He'd just play the role of bemused innocent, and nobody would question it. And yet when we do the radical role reversal thing and force mothers of infants into the workforce, moms are STILL supposed to know everything that's going on at the homefront when Daddy is "caretaking." Even when they aren't there. Classic double standard. When were mothers issued with clairvoyant powers? I must have been out of coffee when the all-seeing super powers were passed out.

Seriously, if we want to protect babies, then let's be reasonable. Let moms stay home with paid maternity leaves, and get daddies like this one into jobs.

Father convicted in infant's death
The Associated Press at 11:26am on Dec 13, 2010 Modified at 11:31am on Dec 13, 2010

BURLINGTON, Ky. — A jury has convicted a northern Kentucky man of killing his infant daughter, but acquitted the child's mother.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports that 32-year-old Benjamin Senseman was convicted Friday of manslaughter and criminal abuse, and the Boone County jury recommended that he serve a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Both he and his wife, Laura Senseman, had been charged with murder in the death of Chloe Senseman on July 12, 2009. Laura Senseman was at work when the baby died, but prosecutors said she should have known the girl was being abused.

Attorneys for the couple had argued their 2-year-old son injured the baby and that if Benjamin Senseman killed the child, it was accidental.
