BOYNTON BEACH — A Boynton Beach man was arrested Monday night after a driver found the man's 4-year-old son wandering alone near a busy intersection, according to police.
The driver spotted the boy around 8 p.m. at the intersection of South Congress Avenue and Southwest Congress Boulevard, police records show. The driver called police and waited with the boy, who was wearing sweatpants, a T-shirt and no shoes.
The child showed police where he lived, but relatives said they weren't aware the boy had been home before he wandered off.
The father, Romilus Duvelsaint, 31, soon arrived and told officers he had left the boy sleeping at home, and had yelled to his sister that he was leaving. The sister was asleep and didn't hear him.
When the boy woke up, he walked outside to look for his dad.
Duvelsaint was arrested on a charge of child neglect, according to police.
They notified the Florida Department of Children & Families and left the child with his aunt.
