A preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning for a Warfordsburg, Pa., man charged with injuring his 5-week-old daughter, who later died at a Washington, D.C., hospital, will be waived, his attorney said.
The preliminary hearing for Nicholas Ray McKee, 22, was to be held this morning in Washington County District Court, but attorney D. Benson Thompson III said his client will waive his right to the hearing.
McKee was charged Jan. 8 with first-degree assault and first-degree child abuse in connection with injuries sustained by Bella Evangeline Appel. The child was injured at 139 Washington St. in Hancock, in the home McKee shared with the baby’s mother, according to court records.
The girl, who was born Nov. 27, was pronounced dead Jan. 9 at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
