Police kill South Bend man stabbing girl, 6

Jun. 2, 2013 | Joe Vitti / The Star

Written by Associated Press

SOUTH BEND, IND. — A South Bend man fatally stabbed his 6-year-old daughter and wounded his wife Sunday before police officers forced their way into his apartment and shot him to death.

Police went to the apartment for a reported domestic disturbance and found a woman in the parking lot covered with blood who said her daughter was inside the apartment with her husband, WNDU-TV and WSBT-TV reported.

“Officers tried to call the suspect out by name several times to get him to come out of the apartment, at which point they heard a young girl screaming inside,” said Lt. Dave Wells, assistant commander of the Metro Homicide Unit. “Officers, fearing for the safety of that child and others who may have been in the apartment, they forced entry, kicking in the door to apartment 1B.”

To stop the attack, one of the officers shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Wells said.

The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Wells said. Wells said the mother also several cuts and stab wounds, but was expected to survive.

Police haven’t released their names. Neighbors told WSBT family was originally from Kenya and moved to South Bend area two years ago.

Officers did not say what led to the attack.

Wells said the case was difficult for officers on scene — there were large amounts of blood in the hall and on the walls — especially those with young children. “Any case we get down here is a tragedy and it’s difficult to deal with, but when you’re dealing with children who become victims of homicide, any kind of abuse, you have to stay focused,” Wells said.

Neighbor Derek Ayres told WNDU he arrived home from working an overnight shift and was shocked by the scene.

“It’s kind of scary because I go to work at night and who knows what can happen to my girlfriend and child when I’m not home,” Ayres said.

Two killed by Nandi dad buried as third dies

MONDAY, APRIL 15, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY BARRY SALIL

A third child attacked by an enraged father a week ago in Nandi died yesterday at Moi Teaching and Referral hospital where he had been in the Intensive Care unit suffering from multiple Panga wounds.

Master Kevin Kipchirchir, 10 circumbed to death as two of his brothers brutally killed by their father in the middle of the night while asleep, were being buried at Kamurguiwo village of Chepkumia location of Emgwen constituency.

Master Benard Kiprotich 15, Gedion Kiptoo 8, were pronounced dead at Kapsabet district hospital while Kipchirchir was transferred to MTRH in Eldoret for specialized treatment after the grisly attack that has shocked many people in Nandi county.

Their father Josiah Koech 48, a former prison warden, had earlier set upon his wife slashing her several times with a machete, however she escaped and lived to tell the story.

The two children were buried beside the grave of their father who was laid the previous day after he was lynched by an angry mob inside Kobujoi forest in south Nandi.

He had escaped after he brutally attacked members of his family to avoid being arrested as he had just completed another 7 year jail term handed to him after he was found guilty of murdering his nice aged 3 in 2005.

A somber mood engulfed the village during the burial as the mother of children, Agnes Koech narrated how her late husband looked an haunted man and in some occasions confessed of having executed innocent inmates while serving at Nakuru G.K. remand prison.

Emotions went high as villagers and neighbours questioned why parents were targeting their children recalling that three months ago, another villager Francis Yegon went berserk and killed his two children before hanging himself in the house his lifeless children lay.

Eliud Kipkemboi, 4 and his sister Sharon Jepkogei, 8 were hacked to death early this year at Kabaskei village in the neighbourhood after an attempt an attempt to kill his wife in cold blood aborted.

A local SDA priest Samuel Langat who presided over the burial of the children blamed widespread Satanism worship in the area. “this are all ritual killings, we have buried 6 children killed in the same circumstances and we must stop this acts.” The priest said.

Custodial dad arrested for beating 11-year-old son with a stick (Narok North, Kenya)

Notice that UNNAMED DAD is identified as a "single father" who had custody. Daddy says Mom "ran away." Whenever violent men claim these things, caution is advised. Did Mom "run away" or was she driven away by the father's violence? Did Daddy take her child away from her to "punish" her? All these are behaviors are commonly seen with child abusing fathers.

Never take an abusive criminal at his word. These guys are chronic liars.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2012 - 00:00 -- BY KIPLANG&;#039...

A middle-aged man was yesterday arrested at Enaibelbel in Narok North after he allegedly beat and injured his 11-year-old son. The suspect is accused of hurting the boy on his face, arms and the back. He is alleged to have beaten his son using a stick.

Narok district children officer Julius Ngoko said the single father of three claimed he was disciplining the boy following a neighbour's complaints that the boy had stolen his money.

Ngoko said that the man pleaded with him to pardon him saying his wife had run away leaving him to take care of the children. He said that child abuse was rampant in the area and added that ignorance of the law is no longer a defense mechanism.

The children officer cautioned parents to be careful when punishing their children because the law is not lenient anyone. The boy was taken to Narok District hospital before being taken to PCEA boys children’s home for temporary stay.

Dad arrested for raping 5- and 9-year-old daughters (Kenya)

Another case where the girls were raped and sexually abused once there was no mother in the home. It is said that she "abandoned" the home after a "feud." More likely is that she was forced to flee the home because of domestic violence. Of course, it's an UNNAMED DAD.

30 August 2011

A FATHER who defiled his two daughters has been arrested by police in Eldoret. Eldoret deputy police boss Benjamin Onsongo said the man will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Onsongo however denied earlier allegation that the suspect might have infected the two minors with HIV/Aids.

Initial medical test by the medics at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret, where the two children aged 5 and 9 are undergoing treatment, has ruled out the possibility that they may have been infected. Medics at the facility said another test will be carried out in three months.

According, Eldoret West deputy children officer Vitalis Kipyego, the man committed the offence after his wife abandoned him following a family feud.

Dad faces life in jail for murdering 3-year-old son (London, England, United Kingdom)

We've posted on this case before. Now dad PAUL DEYA has finally been convicted of murder in the stabbing death of his 3-year-old son.

Father faces life in jail for murdering three-year-old son
Paul Cheston, Courts Correspondent
21 Jan 2011

The adopted son of "miracle baby" preacher Gilbert Deya faces a life sentence at the Old Bailey today for stabbing his toddler son to death and attacking his wife.

Paul Deya, 32, attacked three-year-old Wilson in the family's Bermondsey flat after he and his wife split up.

When Jakeline Otieno returned home from church he chased her out of the flat and stabbed her.

Their 20-month-old daughter was in her cot as the murder took place but was left unharmed.

Deya is the nephew of the self-styled "Archbishop" of the Gilbert Deya Ministeries who adopted him as a youngster when his father died.

Gilbert Deya is fighting extradition to Kenya, where he is wanted for baby abduction and child trafficking, on the grounds it would infringe his human rights.

He had claimed that he could give babies to infertile women through the power of prayer which has been found by a High Court judge to be a "falsehood."

The ministeries, based in Peckham, are said to have 34,000 followers and styles itself the "fastest growing church in Britain and worldwide".

Its congregation donate 10% of their income to the church creating enormous wealth for its leader.

Both Paul Deya and Ms Otieno, 29, worked at the church in the Old Kent Road.

He was born in Kenya and came to Britain on a student visa.

They married in June 2004 but their relationship deteriorated as she found him obsessive and overbearing.

On the day before the tragedy in November 2009 they had agreed to separate and he would move out, the court heard.

But while she was in church Deya texted her with the message "I wish you all the best."

Immediately concerned, she rushed home but found all the doors locked and bolted from the inside forcing her to climb in through the bathroom window.

Inside she saw her child in a pool of blood in his bedroom then her husband ran at her bare chested with a kitchen knife.

She fled screaming from the flat but he caught her on the outside stairs and stabbed her in the head and neck in front of a neighbour and his child.

She was cut so badly her right ear "was held together by the cartilage alone," said Richard Whittam QC, prosecuting.

Deya then returned to the flat and knifed himself in the neck and stomach but recovered in hospital.

Inside the flat officers found a handwritten note beginning "Hi Jackie" and including instructions for the burial of his and his children's bodies.

In the note Deya accused her of cheating on him and said he had "decided to disconnect (him)self completely with you including my children."

He added: "Your warnings and threths pushed me into this."

After this arrest Deya wrote letters claiming his wife had had affairs and he suspected one of his children was not his.

He even accused one of the officers guarding him in hospital of seeing his wife.

In court Ms Otieno denied having any affair.

Deya had pleaded not guilty on the grounds of diminished responsbility but was convicted by the jury of murder. The jury cleared him of attempting to murder his wife. He had already pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of malicious wounding.

Two psychiatrists had diagnosed him as suffering severe depression which led to a psychotic episode. But prosecution doctors said the depression was only mild and did not effect his intent to kill.

He will be sentenced next month by Judge Giles Forrester QC.

Dad killed 3-year-old son, stabbed "unfaithful" wife (London, England, United Kingdom)

We've posted on dad PAUL DEYA before. Frankly, I really wonder if the wife was really "cheating." Any paranoid scumbag who stabs to death a 3-year-old child because his mother is allegedly "unfaithful" is also perfectly capable of delusional thinking. And why would you "punish" a child for such a thing anyway, even if it were true? It's all just coercive control/torture of the mother by a guy who treats "his" women and children as his possessions--to keep or dispose of as he sees fit.

Father killed son and stabbed 'unfaithful' wife, court hears
Paul Cheston, Courts Correspondent
10 Jan 2011

A student nurse stabbed his own toddler son to death and tried to murder the wife he accused of cheating on him, the Old Bailey heard today.

Paul Deya's three-and-a-half-year-old son Wilson bled to death in the family's Bermondsey flat while his mother was at church, the jury was told.

The child's 20-month-old sister was in her cot as the savage attack took place but was left unharmed, the court heard.

When Deya's wife Jackline Otieno returned home he chased her out of the flat and stabbed her.

Father-of-two Deya, 32, was born in Kenya and came to Britain on a student visa.

He married Ms Otieno, 29, in June 2004 but their relationship deteriorated as she found him obsessive and overbearing.

On the day before the tragedy in November 2009 they had agreed to separate and he would move out, the court heard.

But while his wife was at the Gilbert Deya Ministries in the Old Kent Road where she worked as a volunteer, Deya texted her with the message "I wish you all the best."

Deya then returned to the flat and knifed himself in the neck and stomach, the court heard.

He recovered in hospital after intensive care treatment and was arrested.

Deya told detectives that on the day his son died he had wanted to end his own life.

His own father had left him when he was young "so am I going to do the same thing and leave my son to suffer? It is better I go with my son."

When he told Wilson he was going "somewhere forever" the boy had asked him to take him with him. Deya said the next thing he remembered was waking up in hospital.

Mr Whittam told the jury: "This is a case of great tragedy. The real issue is likely to be why it happened. Was it out of possessive jealousy or because Deya was suffering from such an abnormality of mind that it substantially diminished his responsibility for killing Wilson?"

Deya has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. He also denied the attempted murder of Ms Otieno.

The case continues.

Dad confesses to murder of wife, two children (Vadnais Heights, Minnesota)

Not surprisingly, dad JUSTUS OGENDI KEBABE had a documented history of domestic violence. And yet, in a move that's typical of abusers, he blames his wife (and her alleged "infidelities") for his actions. Frankly, I don't even believe him. Guys like Kebabe are pathologically jealous and controlling. Accusations of infidelity are often just "crazy making" to keep the victim isolated and afraid of contacting anyone about her situation. And if this was really a "passion" killing, it really doesn't explain the deliberate and cold-blooded murder of the two children the next day, does it? Nope, this is just a pure power and control slaughter. Too bad the paper even wastes our time airing his "theories" as to why he killed three human beings.

Vadnais man confesses to murdering wife, two children

VADNAIS HEIGHTS — A man with a prior domestic assault arrest confessed to murdering his wife and two of his children in their Vadnais Heights apartment. A third child was found unharmed with the suspect.

The victims are Bilha K. Omare, 32, Kinley Ogendi, 12, and Ivyn B. Ogendi, 9.

The father, Justus Ogendi Kebabe, 43, reportedly confessed to striking his wife with a golf club and then strangling her. After drugging his two children he reportedly drowned his son in the bathtub and strangled his daughter.

The bodies were found at Willow Ridge Apartments on County Road D early Thursday morning. Kebabe was already in jail when the murders were discovered — he had just been arrested in southern Minnesota on suspicion of driving while under the influence.

Kebabe was charged Friday with three counts of second-degree murder.

“I don’t recall the Sheriff’s Office ever having a tragedy of this magnitude,” said Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher.

According to the Ramsey County criminal complaint, a relative contacted the Sheriff’s Office after Kebabe contacted relatives threatening suicide and stating he believed his wife was having affairs.

Deputies went to the family’s apartment and no one came to the door. They then went to Omare’s work and learned she hadn’t come to work or called in for two days. Deputies returned to the residence where apartment management let them into the apartment.

Omare’s body was found in the bathroom and the childrens’ bodies were found in bedrooms.

Meanwhile, the State Patrol had taken Kebabe into custody after his car ran out of gas on I-35E near Faribault. Kebabe had a blood alcohol level of 0.04 and said he’d taken several Tylenol PM pills.

The couple’s four-year-old daughter was in the car and was placed in protective custody.

A sheriff deputy and Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension agent interviewed Kebabe, an immigrant from Kenya, who reportedly confessed to the murders.

According to the criminal complaint:

Kebabe admitted he killed his wife Monday morning after they argued over her alleged affairs. Kebabe told the investigators he struck Omare in the head with a golf club and when she started screaming he strangled her with an electrical wire.

Before his children came home from school he dragged his wife’s body into a bathroom, locked the door and put a towel under the door to stop any blood from running out.

Kebabe said he killed his children the next morning. First he put several Tylenol PM pills into their juice. When Kinley took a bath, Kebabe held his son under the water. Kebabe told investigators his son struggled and pleaded “Stop daddy stop.”

After bringing his son’s body to his bed, Kebabe he went to his daughters room. He said he put a pillow over her head and then choked her with his hands.

Kebabe said he then tried to kill himself by putting a bag over his head but was stopped by worry that his younger daughter would be sent back to Africa. He then fled with the daughter.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner findings are consistent with Kebabe’s account of the murders.

Kebabe was arrested in 2008 for misdemeanor domestic assault on his wife. According to the incident report, Omare told officers Kebabe picked up a vacuum cleaner like a bat and threatened to hit her with it. He later pushed her across the room.

The report states Omare also told deputies Kebabe had previously beaten her unconscious in Kenya but “is more careful with the physical assaults in the U.S.A.” Omare also reportedly said Kebabe has threatened to kill her numerous times. Kebabe denied all of the accusations.

The charges were pled down to disorderly conduct. According to court documents, he spent three days in jail and completed domestic abuse counseling and one year probation. There haven’t been any other police calls to the family’s residence since the 2008 arrest, according to Fletcher.

Omare told deputies Kebabe came to the U.S. in 1996 and Omare followed in 2003.

Willow Ridge Apartments assistant manager Amanda Sjostrand said she didn’t hear or see anything suspicious. She didn’t know the family well but they were friendly, she said. Kinley and Ivyn “were always taking care of my little ones,” Sjostrand said. “They were well-raised children.”

Kinley was an honor roll student at Sunrise Park Middle School. Ivyn attended Willow Lane Elementary.

There was no school last Thursday or Friday. White Bear Lake Area School District Communications Director Marisa Vette said district officials spent time at the apartment complex providing counseling to students and families.

Vadnais Heights Mayor Sue Banovetz said she couldn’t recollect another murder in her city.

The mayor and the sheriff encouraged victims of domestic violence to seek help.

“Domestic violence can happen in any community,” Banovetz said.

Police: Dad murdered mom in front of 4-year-old son (Danville, New Hampshire)

Dad JACKSON MWANGI has been arraigned on 1st-degree murder charges in the death of his ex-girlfriend, the mother of their 4-year-old son. Jackson is accused of repeatedly stabbing the mother, and even seems to have run over her with a car--all while their traumatized child looked on. Disgusting.

And the nerve of this guy to complain about "baby Mama drama." This from a father who's the star of his own murderous "daddy drama," with his own child as the audience. But I guess the real drama queens like to project, don't they?

http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Danville+slaying%3A+Child+may+have+seen+mom+die&articleId=b7f41f29-a50f-461e-a578-8b6f1ea6c3ff

Danville slaying: Child may have seen mom die
By JASON SCHREIBER
Union Leader Correspondent

DANVILLE – One day before allegedly murdering the mother of his small son, Jackson Mwangi posted a message on his Facebook page hinting at trouble in his life.

"Only God can help me," he wrote.

The next day, authorities say the 28-year-old Manchester man repeatedly stabbed Randi Huntley and may have hit her with a hammer and ran her over with a car as the couple's 4-year-old son watched.

For the second time in two years, authorities are investigating a brutal killing in town.

In June 2008, Paul McDonald bludgeoned his Danville landlord with a hammer and was convicted of first-degree murder earlier this year.

"You hear about this in cities, not in small towns," said Amanda Faia, 20, who grew up next door in Sandown and works at Mayo's Market, the only convenience store in Danville.

Mwangi, of 447 Cartier St., Manchester, was arraigned in Exeter District Court yesterday on a first-degree murder charge and ordered held without bail. He appeared only briefly and said nothing before being led from court and returned to Rockingham County Jail.

Mwangi was arrested by New Hampshire State Police Tuesday, shortly after he allegedly attacked Huntley, 25, at her home at 67B Cobbler's Ridge Road. He had lived there until a couple of months ago when he moved out.

Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley said he wasn't sure of the relationship between Huntley and Mwangi most recently, but they had been together for some time.

Police responded to the Cobbler's Ridge Road address just before 4 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a hit-and-run accident. Officers arrived and found Huntley, who had apparently been stabbed, authorities said.

She was rushed to Parkland Medical Center in Derry where she died.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed yesterday; the results were not yet available.

Shortly after the attack, a bulletin was issued urging police to look for a 1999 Infiniti. By about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, dispatchers began receiving reports of a man trying to flag down motorists while parked along Route 101 east near Exit 9 in Exeter. When state and local police arrived they realized that it was Mwangi, authorities said. Police cruisers swarmed the car and Mwangi was arrested. A police dog was also brought in to search for evidence along the highway.

Hinckley said he wouldn't speculate on why Mwangi was trying to get the attention of passing motorists.

As investigators searched for answers yesterday, Huntley's family remembered the good times they shared.

"Every time I saw her she was smiling and she was happy. She would make you laugh and she could find the humor in everything," said Huntley's aunt, Darlene Zimmermann, who is the sister of Huntley's father, Christopher.

Huntley was described as a loving mother who held two jobs and worked hard. She worked full-time at East Coast Lumber in Hampstead and had a second job at a Dollar Tree store.

The middle child of three girls, Huntley grew up in Raymond and graduated from Raymond High School in 2003. She earned a bachelor's degree in child psychology from Hesser College and was looking forward to finding a job in her field.

Photographs posted on her Facebook page show a mother who adored her boy; she often referred to him as "lil man."

Miles away in Manchester, a neighbor of Mwangi expressed shock when told about his arrest.

"Honestly, he seemed like a hard-working, easy-going, laid-back kind of guy," said the woman, who asked her name not be used. She lived upstairs from Mwangi. Like him, she was new to the neighborhood. Her daughter quickly befriended Mwangi's son, who visited on the weekends.

Mwangi was proud of his boy but didn't speak much about himself, she said. He did lament the breakup with the boy's mother, the neighbor said.

"He couldn't believe it turned out like that. He missed her a lot," she said. On Monday, Mwangi borrowed her telephone to call the boy's mother. He complained about "baby Mama drama," she said.

Hinckley said Mwangi appears to be a Kenyan born U.S. citizen.

Details surrounding the investigation into Huntley's death are contained in an affidavit sealed by the court at the prosecutor's request. Search and arrest warrants were sealed as well.

Hinckley said the documents were sealed because the investigation is ongoing.

"It's not a closed investigation after an arrest is made," he said.

With the area around Huntley's residence still cordoned off yesterday and a truck from Major Crime Unit and other police vehicles parked out front, neighbors said they were too upset to talk.
"All I can think about is the family," one woman said as she arrived home.

Dad murders two children; took them from wife while she was away (Kajiado North district, Kenya)

Dad JOHN KIOKA was angry at his wife for leaving him (maybe because he was violent and abusive?). So he hunted down the place she was staying, and took the children while the Mom was away. Then this sicko sent the mom a text message telling her to "wait for another message on his next course of action." Then he sent her a text telling her to look for the children at a certain location. Yes, indeed the children were there. Or at least parts of them--what was left after the remains were disturbed by dogs or other wild animals.

Father kills children in domestic row
Written By:KNA , Posted: Wed, Sep 23, 2009

A father is suspected to have ran amok and brutally killed his two children at Isinya division in Kajiado North district following a domestic row with his wife.

Police are said to be hunting for the man identified as John Kioko from Mbooni district who has gone into hiding.

Kajiado OCPD Francis Sang said Kioko is said to have quarreled with his wife Virginia Nduku after which the wife left for her matrimonial home with the two children aged three and a half and 1 year.

Nduku is said to have sought for employment at a flower farm in Isinya where she was living with the children.

However, a week ago Kioko went to the farm and took away the children while his wife was away.

Nduku says her estranged husband then sent her a text message telling her to wait for another message on his next course of action.

However, on Tuesday a woman from Isinya division saw her dog carrying a child's leg and reported the matter to Isinya Police station.

Coincidentally Nduku had by then received a text message from her husband instructing her to look for her children at a certain location which happened to be where the dog had retrieved the child's leg from.

Police officers accompanied Nduku to the site where they recovered another child's leg and blood-stained clothes which Nduku confirmed as belonging to her children.

Missing body parts

Other body parts were, however missing and police fear they may have been eaten by dogs or other wild animals.

Police are now appealing for information on the whereabouts of the man so that he can shed some light on the matter.
