Bond reduced for custodial dad accused in beating death of 12-year-old son (Paulding County, Georgia)

We've posted extensively on custodial dad SHAYAA FORBES before. Classic case of abuser daddy coddling. And it just gets worse and worse, as the corrupt judicial system digs in its heels.

According to earlier accounts, the battered non-custodial mom is trying to regain custody of the surviving daughter.

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. -- The family of Eric Forbes, the Paulding County boy who police say was tortured and killed by his abusive father, expressed outrage over a judge's decision to lower the accused killer's bond.

Shayaa Forbes was arrested after his 12-year-old son Eric was found dead last October.

At a court hearing in October, investigators described in graphic and at times stomach-turning detail how the 12-year-old was abused by his father -- abuse that was largely overlooked by DFCS despite repeated warnings from Eric's teachers.

DFCS' mishandling of the case sparked a public outcry and resulted in the firings of two caseworkers.

"The system failed Eric in life. I don't want them to fail him in death," said Eric Forbes' grandmother, Lessie Majors.

According to court paperwork obtained by 11Alive News, Judge Tommy Beavers recently lowered Shayaa Forbes' bond to $25,000.

Majors said that she is deeply disturbed by the judge's decision to reduce Shayaa Forbes' bond.

"A person who does something like that should never be let out of jail," Lessie Majors said. "He shouldn't. And it just really made me sick."

Six months after Eric's death, the boy's father has yet to be indicted. Eric's grandmother fears the system is on the verge of failing her grandson a second time.

"Shayaa needs to pay for what he did to him. He needs to pay," Lessie Majors said.

11Alive made repeated calls to the district attorney in Paulding County to see when he plans to present evidence to a grand jury and seek an indictment in the case. The calls were not returned.
