HCSO investigates child abuse claim

ROGERSVILLE - The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible case of child abuse after a woman alleged she found several burns on her child after a visit with his father.

Hawkins County Deputy Stacy Vaughan reported that he met with the mother, who has a Kingsport address, October 2 regarding a case of "possible child abuse to her four-year-old son."

The woman told the deputy that she dropped the child off at his father's residence on Goshen Valley Road, September 30. When she returned to pick up the boy on October 2 the woman claimed the boy's father accused "her or someone she knew�" of abusing the boy.

"After (the woman) brought (her son) home she further inspected the marks on the boy's body and realized they were not there when she dropped him off two days prior," Vaughan's report states. 

According to the deputy, the woman asked the boy what had happened and "he stated to her that his daddy did it to him."

The woman reportedly took her son to the Indian Path Emergency Room.

"After the E.R. staff examined (the boy's) wounds they determined it seemed to have been caused by possibly a cigarette. Upon my arrival at Indian Path, I observed four red marks on his body, three appeared to be burn marks," Vaughan wrote, adding the apparent burn marks were above the left knee, on the left side of his stomach and on the left forearm. The report also notes the boy had a scrape on the left elbow.

The deputy wrote that when speaking to the boy he also said "his daddy burned him with a cigarette." 

HCSO Detective Cliff Evans and Chris Franklin, of Department of Children's Services, responded to the hospital. As of press time no charges have been filed in the case.
