FARMINGTON, CT (WFSB) - A 7-week-old infant is recovering from vicious injuries at the hand of her father, according to Farmington police.

Connecticut Children's Medical Center informed police that they were treating a 7-week-old girl who was suffering from multiple bone fractures and a urinary tract infection.

Police investigated the incident and the baby's father, who was identified as Morsy Elzawawy, as arrested.

Elzawawy was charged with assault, risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment. He faced a judge for the first time Monday.

However, court documents released Tuesday show how the girl received some of her injuries. Elzawawy told police the infant fell all the way down the stairs from halfway up the stairs.

Elzawawy blamed medications he was taking for the way he treated the baby and told police "he was recently taking Percocet and Valium from a recent motor vehicle accident."

The child's mother said in the warrant she doesn't believe her husband could hurt the baby.

Along with the criminal investigation, the state Department of Children and Families is now involved.

The baby and another child are now in protective custody.

Neighbors at the Farmington complex where Elzawawy lives said they were disgusted by what police said was going on.

"How could you do that to a defenseless child?" asked Robin Cmiel, of Farmington.
