TEMPLE - A man accused of murdering his infant child is now headed to trial.

On Wednesday, Temple Police Investigators presented a homicide case to the Bell County Grand Jury, and that jury indicted 18 year old Warren Hughes on the charge of murder.

The indictment follows a lengthy investigation into an infant death discovered by Temple Police back in November. Police arrived on that day to find the child unconscious at a residence in the 1600 block of Marlandwood Road. The child was taken to Scott and White by ambulance, but was unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased shortly afterward.

Temple Investigators and Texas Rangers gathered evidence from the scene and an autopsy was ordered.

The final result of the autopsy, interviews with family, evidence gathering and all follow-up investigatory processes led to the presentation to Grand Jury on Wednesday. The evidence suggested that Hughes caused fatal blunt force trauma to the infant.

Hughes was already in the Bell County Jail on an unrelated charge of Burglary of a Habitation. Bond was set at $100,000.
