Dad with history of domestic violence smothers and kills 6-month-old son after mom breaks up with him (Lancashire, England)

The same mistakes over and over again....and so children continue to die. Stop giving abusers visitation/custody!

Dad PAUL MCBRIDE had a history of domestic violence. Yet he was provided with access to his 6-month-old son anyway after Mom finally left him. So naturally, we know what happened from there. Daddy's control obsessions got so out-of-whack that he murdered the baby in a revenge killing. Gotta hurt Mom in the worst possible way, right? How dare she leave MEEEE!

Notice the part where Mom didn't want Dad to see the baby much. Will somebody now admit that Mom's instincts were 100 percent correct, and that this POS was not safe around the baby? Or will she get trashed by the fathers rights sympathizers for not "sharing" with a baby killer?

At least the police had the part about the revenge killing right. They also report that the mother had been the victim of domestic violence. And yet we see efforts to fudge this fact here, with language like "blazing rows" between the couple or "a bit of domestic history between the parents." This just strips the story of agency. Who did what to whom? Let's stick to those facts, rather than go off in airy-fairy language, shall we?

And notice that the UK press does the same thing as the US press here: the mandatory clueless neighbor "good guy" quote. Except here, of course, we're told that he was "a very jokey sort of lad," this being Merry Olde England and all. Puke.

A father smothered his own son before hanging himself in a revenge attack after his partner ended their relationship.

Paul McBride, 39, a taxi driver, suffocated six-month-old baby Ollie before hanging himself at his mother’s home.

The alert was raised when his body was found by his sister Michelle, who joined a police search for the Hackney cab driver after concerns were raised.

She went round to the house after the baby’s mother, Michaela Swain, 35, contacted police when Mr McBride failed to return Ollie at the agreed time.

Last night it emerged the couple had recently split after a series of blazing rows and had been living apart for some weeks.

It is understood police had been called to their home on more than one occasion after reports Miss Swain had been the victim of domestic violence.

Detectives investigating the tragedy will examine the theory Mr McBride killed his own son and then took his own life in revenge.

A senior police source said: ‘It appears the couple had been involved in a very acrimonious break-up and the mother did not allow him to see his son a lot.

‘They were constantly rowing about it but had come to some loose agreement that Paul could take Ollie out for a few hours.

‘He was very unhappy at this arrangement and it appears that if he wasn’t allowed to have his son then no one could have him.’

Mother: Michaela Swain said, 'No words I could ever write could express how much I love my beautiful baby boy Ollie.'

Last night Miss Swain, 35, who was being comforted by friends and family at her home in Ribbleton, Preston, paid tribute to her son.

She said: ‘No words I could ever write could express how much I love my beautiful baby boy Ollie. Goodnight sweetheart, sweet dreams. Mummy loves you. Moo moo. X’

Detective Superintendent Neil Esseen, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘There is a little bit of domestic history between the parents with some arguments.

‘We are trying to find out what bearing that had. Whether it is a revenge attack is too early to say, that would be speculation. We will be looking at all sorts of theories.

‘The mother is obviously very distraught and she is being comforted by trained specialist officers. It is vitally important that we are able to tell the mother what has happened to her baby.’

Neighbours Alma and John Attle, who have known Mr McBride since he was a child, said they were in total shock by his actions.

Mrs Attle said: ‘Paul is the last person you would have thought would do this. He was a very jokey sort of lad - always full of jokes.

‘We saw Michelle and another relative go into the house and then a few minutes later there were police and ambulances everywhere.

‘Paramedics rushed the baby out of the house and into the ambulance, and at that stage we didn’t know if he was dead or alive.

‘We asked Michelle what had happened and she said that Paul had hanged himself. She said that the police had been looking for him earlier but she didn’t say why.’

Mrs Attle said: ‘She was in a terrible state and wasn’t very coherent. We are just shocked. It is a terrible thing to have happened.’

The tragedy was discovered shortly after 6pm on Wednesday evening when Mr McBride’s sister, Michelle, and another relative joined the hunt for her brother.

She found him hanged at their mother Denise’s home and immediately called the emergency services who rushed to the scene.

Ollie was discovered unconscious and unresponsive and despite efforts to revive him by paramedics he was later pronounced dead.
