Tormented boy kills crazy, abusive father with unspecified custody rights; gets sentenced to 20 years in prison (Kootenai County, Idaho)
Was the mother "estranged" before all this happened? Not clarified here. But if she was, who in the hell thought it was a good idea to place these boys with a violent, lunatic father?

Idaho teen sentenced 20 years in deaths of zombie-obsessed father and younger brother
BY Nicole Hensley / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS / Monday, April 4, 2016, 10:12 PM
A 16-year-old Idaho boy who murdered his abusive, zombie-obsessed father before brutally stabbing his autistic brother to death, will spend 20 years behind bars.
After a jury found Eldon Gale Samuel III guilty of first-degree and second-degree murder charges in late January, a Kootenai County judge slapped the teenager with two concurrent sentences Friday.
Eldon will spend the next two decades in an adult prison, rather than a juvenile facility, looking back on the night of March 24, 2014. At age 14, he riddled Eldon Samuel Jr. with bullets before moving on to Jonathan Samuel, 13. Eldon shot him repeatedly and then hacked his kid brother to death as the scared child cowered under a bed at their Coeur d’Alene home.
The teen reflected on his actions during a sentencing hearing Friday afternoon.
“I’m not the same person I was two years ago,” KXLY-TV reported Eldon as telling Judge Benjamin Simpson. “I feel like a whole new person, but that doesn't excuse what I did."
He acknowledged killing his little brother, who he referred to as “Johnny.”
“I lost my dad and my brother, Johnny, my own little brother,” Eldon added.
Mental health experts believe parental neglect and a dysfunctional home life with his doomsday prepper father contributed to signs of reactive detachment disorder in Samuel, the Spokesman Review reported.
During the trial, the victim’s estranged wife, Tina, said the elder Samuel planned to take his sons into the mountains to train against a zombie apocalypse.
Eldon shot his father in the stomach and pumped three more bullets into his head to prevent him from reanimating into the flesh-eating undead, a defense attorney argued in court.
Judge Simpson acknowledged that Samuel will require treatment to prevent future streaks of violence.
“Mr. Samuel, you’re going to have to live with the fact you took Jonathan’s life for the rest of your life,” Simpson told Eldon.
“You’re going to need treatment for a long time,” he added, according to the Spokesman-Review.

Teen son on trial for killing violent drug-addicted custodial dad (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho)
Notice that the process by which this abusive nutcase of a father gained custody of his two sons, one of which had autism, is kind of glossed over. It didn't just happen. Unless mothers have the full support of the police and the courts, these kinds of fathers routinely get custody because they're scary and obsessed with control.
Dad is identified as ELDON SAMUEL, JR.

Defense: Violent father abused kids, obsessed over zombies
By Associated Press |Thursday, January 21st 2016
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) Eldon Samuel Jr. was a violent man who was hooked on prescription drugs, owned numerous weapons and was preparing his sons for a zombie apocalypse, his estranged wife Tina Samuel told the court Wednesday.
The couple's 16-year-old son, Eldon Samuel III, is being tried as an adult for killing his father and his autistic brother, reported the Coeur d'Alene Press.
He was 14 at the time of the March 2014 killings.
Tina Samuel described her husband as controlling and moody. She lives in California and said Eldon Samuel Jr. moved to Idaho with their two boys when the couple separated.
She said younger Eldon Samuel listened to and learned from his father, who had prepared to load a trailer with guns and other weapons, water, and canned food and take the family high into the mountains in the event of a zombie apocalypse.
"He was trained to be ready when the zombies came," said Tina Samuel, who said the father taught his sons to use knives and guns and cut of the heads of rattlesnakes for fun "Shoot them in the head or chop off their head. That's the only way to kill a zombie."
Eldon Samuel III is accused of shooting his father and shooting, stabbing and hacking at 13-year-old Jonathan Samuel repeatedly with a machete. The teen called 911 that night and officers found him standing out front in bloody clothes.
Officers said the teenager told them he feared his father, who beat him, would kill him.
He told police his dad was high on painkillers, fired a gun outside the house and started talking about zombies, according to court records. Samuel said his dad also started hitting and pushing him. He told police he shot his father and then went after his autistic brother, who was hiding under a bed. Samuel blamed Jonathan's disability for the family's problems, according to the police transcript.
Tina Samuel said her husband's demeanor changed after he became addicted to prescription drugs after some work injuries.
"It got so much worse over the years," she said.
Before the couple broke up for good, they moved 20 times. Tina Samuel said they were evicted "every place we lived at" because Eldon Samuel Jr. didn't pay the rent.
She said her teenage son often missed school and was bullied when he did go.
Teachers from Lakes Magnet Middle School testified that the missed days hurt his development and grades, but that Samuel was quiet, polite and tried to learn when he showed up.
A pediatrician said the teenage Samuel reported that his dad physically abused him and that he lived on one meal per day.
A dentist who treated Samuel after his arrest said his teeth were also in horrible condition from chronic neglect.

Why did CPS grant criminal father custody of two young daughters? (Pocatello, Idaho)
Great editorial from Idaho State Journal.

ISJ opinion editorial: What about the health and welfare of Zinnia and Dahlia?
Updated Nov 24, 2015
The last time we took issue with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, it was back in April when it became apparent that this government agency had essentially destroyed a local business for no good reason.
That business was Seasons of Hope, a mental health services provider with seven locations in Southeast Idaho and about 200 employees.
Health and Welfare accused Seasons of Medicaid fraud and ordered the company to pay $550,000 in fines and restitution. It took Seasons Chief Executive Officer Heath Sommer two years and lots of money in attorney’s fees to prove his business was innocent of the charges, but by that time Seasons was no more.
Fast forward to now and we have Health and Welfare involved in an even more questionable action. Health and Welfare has recommended that two young American-born girls from Southeast Idaho be essentially deported to be with their father in Mexico.
Health and Welfare officials say they’re only resolving a custody dispute.
We call it child endangerment on the part of a government agency.
The children’s father, a Mexican national, was previously deported from the United States. This individual has a criminal record, but it has unfortunately been sealed by the courts.
The children’s mother, Kelly Fink, of Pocatello, is a recovering drug addict who currently lives in a homeless shelter.
But she’s staying clean and clearly wants to put her life back together. Kelly’s mother and stepfather have moved to Southeast Idaho to help her get back on her feet.
Kelly’s two daughters, Zinnia and Dahlia, were being cared for by a foster family in Idaho Falls with regular visitation by their mom.
Rather than see these kids reunited with their mother, Health and Welfare decided to move the girls to Mexico to be with their father — the guy with the sealed criminal record who was deported.
Zinnia and Dahlia were transported by Idaho authorities to Boise for their Monday trip to Mexico. By the time you read this, the girls will likely be in Mexico, where they will spend the rest of their childhoods.
Perhaps if Health and Welfare officials had perused Mexico’s crime statistics, even by doing a quick Internet search, they would have realized what kind of mistake it was to send these two Southeast Idaho girls there.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, “Criminal cartels — which traffic 90 percent of the cocaine that enters the United States — have killed an estimated 60,000 Mexican soldiers, police, politicians and civilians since 2006.” Other sources put the death toll much higher. Mexico’s murder rate is at least three times that of the United States.
During a less than two-year period between late 2012 and May 2014, 8,000 Mexicans simply disappeared. Since 2006, the number of Mexicans who’ve gone missing is nearly 30,000. It’s believed that these individuals who’ve mysteriously vanished were also murdered by Mexican drug cartels.
An incident in September 2014 illustrates the level of violence and lawlessness in Mexico. Members of a drug cartel rounded up over 40 students at a Mexican university. The students were never seen again. Their parents went looking for them and while they did not find any traces of their children, they did find multiple mass graves containing the bodies of 300 other people.
We won’t even delve into Mexico’s well-deserved reputation as a place with rampant sex trafficking, forced prostitution, forced labor, child sexual abuse and rape.
It’s a country known for attracting what are called child sex tourists — people who specifically travel to Mexico from other places because of the abundance of child prostitutes there. It’s not reassuring that Health and Welfare said it has talked to Mexican officials who promise they’re going to keep a close watch on Zinnia and Dahlia and make sure their father is taking good care of them.
Google “child abuse Mexico” and you’ll find out what kind of job Mexican officials are doing to protect Mexican children.
Judge Bryan Murray signed off on Health and Welfare’s plan to send Zinnia and Dahlia south of the border and we are obviously left wondering why.
We wish we could be sure that Zinnia and Dahlia will somehow not become tragic statistics as new residents of Mexico.
If something bad happens, Idaho will have nothing to offer but an apology.

Dad charged with 1st-degree murder in death of 5-month-old son (Lewiston, Idaho)
Dad is identified as CODY A. GOSSAGE.

N. Idaho Father Arrested in Infant Son's Death
7 hours ago
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — A 20-year-old man has been arrested for suspicion of murder in the death of his infant son, Lewiston police said.
Cody A. Gossage was booked into the Nez Perce County jail. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday, The Lewiston Tribune reported Saturday.
According to police, officers responded to a call for help and found the 5-month-old old Jordan Big Man-Gossage unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment, but he was flown to Seattle within a few hours for advanced treatment because of severe brain trauma.
He died two days later in what police described as "non-accidental traumatic event."
Detectives with the Lewiston Police Department conducted interviews with doctors and specialists who treated Big Man-Gossage, and reviewed medical reports, according to the police department. They then interviewed family members before deciding to arrest Gossage on the first-degree murder charge.
Deputy Chief Roger Lanier said the severity of the charge is mandated by Idaho law because the child involved is younger than 12 years old. Idaho Code stipulates that any murder that occurs during the commission of an aggravated battery on a child younger than 12 is classified as first-degree murder.
More details on the investigation will be available on Monday when the probable cause affidavit is made public.

Custodial dad sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in beating death of 6-year-old son (Pocaltello, Idaho)
As we do updates to the killer dads and custody lists, you may notice an interesting pattern. By the time these fathers are convicted and sentenced, their custody status has been neatly erased. This case is no different.
In fact, dad ANTHONY BLAKE VILES gained custody just TWO MONTHS before he beat to death his 6-year-old son, and before gaining custody, he had NEVER EVEN MET THE BOY. See here for additional background.

Death of son gets Anthony Viles 15 years

POCATELLO — Anthony Blake Viles was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of his son Afton Allison.
Sixth District Judge Stephen Dunn, when imposing the sentence, said it was a difficult case because he didn’t believe Viles intended to kill Afton when striking him that April day.
“I think you hit him and a very tragic result came from that,” Dunn said.
But the judge was also clear that society needed to understand that the protection of children is paramount.
“I have to send a message not only to you but to others that children must be treated with great care,” Dunn said, calling the mistreatment of children a “huge problem in our society.”
Viles was charged with first-degree murder in April 2012 after his son died and in August he pleaded guilty to felony voluntary manslaughter, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. At one point in the process, it was determined Viles was not competent to aid in his defense, and he was sent to State Hospital South for more than two months, returning with a diagnosis that he was now competent.
Tuesday’s sentencing hearing lasted nearly two hours and began with Viles’ attorney, Bannock County Public Defender Randy Schulthies, calling three witnesses. They included a caseworker with the child protection division of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare who knew Viles prior to Afton’s arrival, and who helped counsel him after his son came to Idaho, a therapist clinician at State Hospital South in Blackfoot, where Viles was committed for a time last year, and Viles’ grandfather.
All three testified to their particular knowledge of Viles’ character. All three testified that they believed violent behavior was out of character for Viles.
But the testimony of Beverly Clayton, the Health and Welfare case worker, and Viles’ grandfather Roy Viles also gave the court a glimpse into what Anthony Viles was dealing with when it came to 6-year-old Afton.
Washington state officials, when talking to Clayton, who was given their name by Viles as a reference, said Afton had some anger issues. Documented case history from Washington state, read in court by Schulthies, shows Afton had bouts controlling his anger and was prone to act out violently, kicking and hitting.
But it was Roy Viles who told the court that he witnessed Afton, on more than one occasion, attempt to hurt himself, hitting himself with toys during one incident and banging his head against a door jam during another.
Afton’s mother, who spoke to the court later in the proceeding, also confirmed that Afton was a lot of work to handle, also saying he was worth it.
All three of the witnesses Schulthies called agreed that Viles was not “equipped” with the skill set to handle Afton’s special needs.
After all witnesses had spoken, Schulthies made his recommendations to Dunn, telling the judge that he doesn’t believe Viles was attempting to hurt Afton when he struck out at the boy, but was doing so in reaction to a substantially difficult situation that he was not equipped to handle.
He recommended Viles be sentenced to three or four years fixed with 10 years indeterminate. He said Viles had asked him to request the judge consider a retained jurisdiction.
Bannock County Prosecutor Steve Herzog said that it is in the parent where trust is placed to protect the child.
“It sounds like Afton had a lot of needs and it was Mr. Viles job to meet those needs,” Herzog told Dunn. “Mr. Viles failed Afton.”
Then Herzog said that even assuming that Viles was just striking out at Afton in reaction to a bad situation, and that the child did experience the most substantial of his injuries when he hit his head falling back, his decision not to seek medical attention immediately was a sign that Viles was “detached.”
Instead, Herzog said, Viles went to visit his daughter, believing that he might not have the opportunity to see her again for a while, fearing he would be headed to prison.
Herzog recommended Viles be sentenced to seven year fixed and eight years indeterminate.
Viles then spoke to the judge, telling him that whatever sentence he handed down would not be as long as the sentence he has already imposed on his heart.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Afton,” Viles said.
Dunn agreed with Viles that the case was a tragic one, but immediately said he believed the entire 15 years available to him should be imposed. He said his primary decision was in determining how much of that 15 years should be fixed prison time, and how much should be left in the hands of the Department of Probation and Parole.
He sentenced Viles to seven years fixed and eight years indeterminate, adding that for those who would suggest he should bar Viles from ever being around children again, it was outside of his jurisdiction to make such a demand.
In fact, dad ANTHONY BLAKE VILES gained custody just TWO MONTHS before he beat to death his 6-year-old son, and before gaining custody, he had NEVER EVEN MET THE BOY. See here for additional background.

Family courts reward dad who engaged in "custodial interference" by giving him legal custody of 3-year-old daughter (Richland, Washington)
For the last 20-30 years, the fathers rights folks and moaned and whined about mothers "interfering" in custody matters related to the children they gave birth to. It's pretty evident now that they were never opposed to "interference" in principle, as it is now totally okay for fathers to abscond with the kids in situations involving joint custody AND BE REWARDED FOR IT. Dad is identified as JASON ROBERT SPENCER.

‘Custodial interference’ charge dismissed
Former defendant now has legal custody of 3-year-old daughter
By TERRY SMITH Express Staff Writer
A former Hailey man who was earlier this year charged with “custodial interference,” a felony in Idaho, now has legal custody of his 3-year-old daughter, the child he was accused of illegally taking from her mother.
“I have custody of my child as we speak in the state of Washington,” Jason Robert Spencer, 39, said in a telephone interview Wednesday.
The felony charge against Spencer has now been dismissed by the Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and a child custody dispute between Spencer and the girl’s mother has been resolved, at least temporarily, in a civil case.
Spencer was charged with the crime of custodial interference in February after Hailey police alleged that he had illegally taken the child out of state. Civil litigation was also started at about that time to determine both parents’ rights and obligations regarding the child.
A civil disposition in the dispute, providing that father and mother share custody of the child, was issued in July after the parties submitted a written agreement to the court.
Spencer said he took custody of the child, with Hailey police aware of the situation, about three weeks ago and took her from Hailey to Richland, Wash., where he now lives.
“According to our court order, she [the mother] must be able to support our child,” Spencer said. “She can’t meet any of the guidelines that are in our court order.”

POST FALLS — A 20-year-old Post Falls father was arrested on Tuesday night for felony injury to a child after his 4-month-old son was transported to Kootenai Health and then Sacred Heart Medical Center for serious injuries.
Jeremiah D. Weaver was arrested after police responded to his residence on Coeur d'Alene Avenue in Post Falls at 8:40 p.m.
"Officers found the infant to be non-responsive," Post Falls police Capt. Greg McLean said.
McLean said this afternoon that the infant is still alive and the family was awaiting test results from the hospital. He said he doesn't have more information on the baby's condition.
McLean declined to comment on the nature of the injuries and what Weaver told investigators had happened, citing an ongoing investigation.
McLean said the infant's mother, who is Weaver's girlfriend, was questioned briefly and is being questioned again this afternoon.
McLean said the mother was not home when a neighbor called police after Weaver went to the neighbor's home. He said it's unclear whether she was home when the child was allegedly injured.
McLean said both parents have been cooperative with police.
"We're still trying to sort out who was there and what happened," McLean said. "We're still trying to get interviews done."
Weaver was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
No more information was released.

A 3-year-old boy from Lacey died in Montana of “blunt and sharp force injuries,” according to authorities in Montana.
The child’s father, Jeremy Brent Cramer, 38, was charged with deliberate homicide in the child’s death after he was arrested Monday night, when he was found washing blood off his clothes in a southwestern Montana convenience store restroom, Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Attorney Ben Krakowka has said.
The boy has been identified at Broderick Daniel Cramer, according to the Montana Department of Justice. Broderick would have turned 4 next Tuesday.
Jeremy Cramer made an initial court appearance Tuesday in Montana and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the boy likely died from blunt and sharp force injuries, according to the Montana Department of Justice. No further details regarding the specific cause and method of death were available Wednesday.
According to a news release from the Montana Department of Justice, additional pathology examination and criminal investigation are required. Division of Criminal Investigation agents and Anaconda-Deer Lodge law enforcement officers are working closely with the Lacey Police Department to determine the events that led up to the child’s death, according to the release. Krakowka said Wednesday that he expects to file charging documents in connection with the case by the end of the week.
Krakowka would not say whether Cramer has given investigators a statement.
Homicides are extremely rare in Deer Lodge County, Krakowka said.
“Something like this happening here is completely and totally unheard of,” he said.
The boy’s mother had told Lacey police Monday that her husband took the child from their Lacey home that morning and drove off. Lacey police put out a “be-on-the-lookout” alert for Jeremy Cramer’s vehicle for Eastern Washington, Montana and Idaho authorities after the mother notified police that a credit card in the family’s name had been used at a store in Moses Lake.
However, police did not issue an Amber Alert because there was no information from the mother suggesting that the child was in danger, Lacey Police Cmdr. Jim Mack said Tuesday.
A convenience store clerk in the Anaconda, Mont., area called police about 10:30 p.m. Monday after finding Cramer washing blood off himself in the restroom.
Investigators later found Cramer’s vehicle in a rural area near Mill Creek Road, about 5 miles southeast of Anaconda.
An initial search turned up no sign of the boy Monday night, but his body was found after the search resumed at daybreak.
Mack has said Cramer lived in Lacey about a year, and had a Montana driver’s license. Mack said police had never been called out to the home.
Mack added that the couple had been arguing about finances recently.

Dad charged with seriously injuring 4-month-old son (Twin Falls, Idaho)
Dad is identified as MICHAEL THOMIS MORANVILLE.
Given that the rib fractures were in "advanced stages of healing," this is not the first time that this poor baby has been abused.
Even though Mom has not been charged with any wrongdoing, she has still lost the baby to foster care.

Twin Falls Father Charged with Injuring Baby

TWIN FALLS • A Twin Falls man was arrested after, police say, he seriously injured his infant son earlier this year.
Michael Thomis Moranville, 21, was arraigned in Twin Falls County 5th District Court on the charge of felony injury to a child and released on his own recognizance on Thursday.
On March 4, Twin Falls police were notified that Boise detectives were dispatched to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Boise for a 4-month-old Twin Falls child who was admitted into the pediatric intensive care unit for a brain bleed. Boise detectives also told Twin Falls police that an X-ray revealed that the child had two fractured ribs that were in advanced stages of healing.
The boy was brought to the hospital by his parents.
According to a police report, in an interview with detectives the boy’s father, Moranville, told police that on the evening of Dec. 23 he gave his son a bath at their home in the 1200 block of Twin Falls Loop in Twin Falls.
Moranville told police that he was holding the baby in his left arm while trying to remove the towel the baby was wrapped in with his right arm, the report states. Then, he told police, the baby made a movement that caused him to slip out of Moranville’s arms and fall to the floor, the report states. According to the report, Moranville said the baby may have hit a changing table shelf before hitting the carpeted floor.
Moranville told police that the baby cried for about 30 seconds and had no visible injuries.
The report states that although there were no visible injuries, the parents decided to take the baby to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center to be checked out.
Moranville's wife told Boise police that medical staff then performed a CT scan on the baby and nothing of concern was found, the report states.
Moranville told police the baby began throwing up excessively between Dec. 29 and Jan. 11 and saw several doctors at St. Luke’s in Twin Falls and Boise.
After several appointments, nurses ordered a CT scan because the baby’s head began to grow abnormally, the father told police. The report states that the CT scan revealed that the baby had fluid in his brain.
Then, on March 5, Moranville and the baby’s mother took the boy to St. Luke’s in Boise where he was admitted and had surgery performed to relieve the pressure, the father told police. At that time doctors discovered the fractured ribs and became worried about child abuse, the report states.
In an interview with police on March 8, the report states, Moranville said that sometime between Jan. 15 and Jan. 18 he was having an argument with his wife. Moranville told police he grabbed the baby away from his wife but was not gentle with him. While walking away, Moranville told police, he squeezed his son too hard and the baby began to cry. According to the report, Moranville also admitted to shaking the baby for about 10 seconds. Moranville said the baby did not lose consciousness or act strangely, the report states.
“Mr. Moranville told me that he didn’t shake his son as if he meant to kill him because it was never his intention to hurt him,” officer Eric Barzee wrote in the report. “But after it happened, he realized he’d gone too far.”
Police also interviewed the baby’s mother. The report states that the 20-year-old woman said her husband gets frustrated and punches walls or furniture, but she had never seen him hurt their son.
On March 19, the baby was released from the Boise hospital and placed with foster parents.
A March 27 report by doctors states that the baby’s injuries are highly concerning and are consistent with the diagnosis of child abuse.
Twin Falls County prosecutors filed a case against Moranville on May 1. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 10.

Custodial dad left 2-year-old son at home while he went to work because he "forgot" (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho)
It is not till we get nearly to the end that we find out that dad JESSE EDWARDS was custodial. Notice that how he got custody, and who gave it to him, is not explained and is left very vague. Of course, the mother is not interviewed for her opinion.
I don't believe this guy for a minute. Children tend to get left behind or "forgotten" when there is a change in routine. But there was no change of routine here. I suspect drugs.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- The father of a two-year-old boy who was arrested Sunday on child endangerment charges said he simply forgot about his son when he left the house for work.
Hours later, the boy was found walking along a busy Coeur d’Alene road.
The boy was taken into protective custody after a couple of Good Samaritans found him standing alone near the intersection of Government Way and Park Avenue Sunday afternoon.
Virginia Griggs is a manager at the nearby Sully’s Pub and Grill.
Griggs said the couple brought the boy into the bar for safe keeping and called authorities.
The boy told officers his name and his dad’s name. He was wearing an inside-out pajama top, sweatpants and boots, and a diaper that looked like it had not been changed for awhile, police said.
Griggs said the boy seemed OK, but overwhelmed while answering the officer's questions.
Police contacted 36-year-old Jesse Edwards of Hayden by cell phone and were able to confirm the child is his.
Officers arrested Edwards at the Hayden Walmart where he was buying a few things. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of some substance.
Authorities said Edwards offered no explanation about how he became separated from his child.
Edwards told KREM 2 News he simply forgot about his son when he went to work just after 7 a.m. He said he was so tired he could not remember if he dropped off his son at his parent’s house near Rathdrum like he normally does. Edwards said he and the boy live at a home a couple of blocks away from where the child was found.
Edwards denied he was under the influence of any substance.
Officers arrested Edwards for child endangerment. He bailed out of jail and is due in court Tuesday.
Edwards said his son’s mother is not in the picture and that he has full custody of Jake.
The toddler was placed into protective care.

Dad charged with killing 6-year-old son 2 months after gaining custody (Idaho)
Custodial dad ANTHONY BLAKE VILES has been charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of his 6-year-old son. Daddy Dearest had only had custody for TWO FREAKING MONTHS before he went off on the boy so badly as to kill him. What is the point in placing a child with a father (or any family caretaker) who has never even bothered to meet the child in question? None. That should show you the real interest in the child's well being right there. But CPS is so blinded with father exaltation, that this is the kind of crap they pull all the time.

An Idaho man is charged with murdering his 6-year old son, just two months after gaining custody.
Anthony Blake Viles is accused of beating Afton Allison last Thursday. The boy died Sunday night.
Afton used to live in Washington with his mother and stepfather. After child protective services removed him from his mother's home for neglect, they placed him with his biological father, who he had never met.
"I haven't even had a chance to walk away from it, to decompress, and to look at it from a different aspect, because of the nature of his death. And once everything has been put aside, then maybe I can, I can find out how to walk away from it intact,’ said Jessica Allison-Wrigley, the boy’s mother.
The first-degree murder charge carries the possibility of the death penalty.

Dad charged with 1st-degree murder in beating death of 6-year-old son (Pocatello, Idaho)
Dad is identified as ANTHONY BLAKE VILES. Notice there is mention of a step father. So this is obviously a custody/visitation situation--though this is never spelled out. And obviously there is no explanation as to how a man who appears to be this violent was able to get custody/visitation and who gave it to him. All of it swept neatly under the rug....

Update: Viles Charged with First-Degree Murder in Alleged Beating Death
Published: 4/13 8:47 am
Updated: 11:25 am
UPDATE: The Bannock County Prosecutor's Office has filed first-degree murder charges against the Pocatello man accused of beating his six-year-old son to death.
Anthony Blake Viles was originally charged with felony injury to a child.
Deputy Prosecutor Vic Pearson announced the amended charges Tuesday which he says come as a result of Afton Allison's death on Sunday at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT.
Pearson also mentioned the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.
According to Idaho code, first-degree murder charges accompany any beating death involving a child under the age of 12.
Viles bond has been set at $1 million dollars.
UPDATE: A six-year-old Pocatello boy has passed away after allegedly being beaten by his biological father.
Afton Allison passed away this weekend after doctors took him off of life support.
The boy's biological father, 27-year-old Anthony Blake Viles is being held on a felony injury to a child charge and Bannock County Prosecutor Mark Hiedeman says a decision of additional or amended charges will be made Tuesday following an autopsy on the child.
Afton Allison was taken to Portneuf Medical Center last Thursday with severe injuries and was later flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A memorial fund has been setup in the boy's honor at donatelife.net.
Afton's step father, Jared Wrigley, says it was difficult to say goodbye so soon in the child's young life.
“We spent most of our time trying to enjoy our last moments and family members came up from all over just to say their last goodbyes,” said Wrigley. “We got to hold him one last time and walk him into the operating room where his organs were to be donated. Then we came out and began our pursuit of finding help or his justice as we might say."
The family hosted a candlelight vigil at 8:30 Monday evening at upper Ross Park.

Dad pleads guilty to injuring 2-month-old daughter; baby had fractured ribs, punctured lung (Burley, Idaho)
Dad SKYLER WADE GARNER basically gets probation and useless anger management/parenting classes for beating up on a newborn. (My gut feeling is that anybody who assaults babies is already lacking a few screws, and isn't going to really get how such actions are morally wrong in a classroom. It's a little bit late for that.) Notice that Daddy is getting the kid-glove treatment even though there is evidence that this wasn't the first time Daddy had abused the baby (evidence of older fractures). Though Mom is not accused of any wrongdoing (at least none that is reported here), she has lost the baby to foster care. Notice that the violent perpetrator (Dad) and the non-perpetrator (Mom) are treated virtually the same. This is typical of the double standard in these cases. We expect more from mothers, but then layer up the family courts with fathers rights/joint custody dogma so moms can't exercise any real authority over their children and their safety.

Burley Father Pleads Guilty to Child Injury Charge

BURLEY • A Burley man pleaded guilty to an amended misdemeanor charge of injury to a child Tuesday after his infant daughter was hospitalized with broken ribs and a punctured lung in November.
Skyler Wade Garner, 27, also pleaded guilty to violating his probation for misdemeanor driving under the influence in 2011.
Cassia County 5th District Magistrate Judge Rick Bollar sentenced Garner to 365 days in jail on the child injury charge, with credit for three days that he already served in jail and the remaining 362 days suspended. Garner was placed on probation for two years, with another year of probation running concurrently for his probation violation.
“I’m not a child abuser,” Garner said when Bollar asked if he wanted to speak. “No, there’s nothing I’d like to say.”
Garner was also ordered to pay fines and court costs.
Bollar said he understands that the cause of the injuries Garner’s daughter suffered is still under investigation.
According to court records, the 2-month-old girl was hospitalized with broken ribs and a punctured lung. Further investigation revealed that the infant also had multiple older fractures including a fractured vertebra.
The baby’s mother allegedly told detectives they believed their 14-month-old son may have caused the infant’s injuries. The mother said the boy often jumped from couch to couch and sometimes landed in the infant’s bassinette, which sat on one of the couches. Garner also allegedly told investigators that the couple’s dog may have caused the child’s injuries.
The child has been placed in foster care, while Garner is currently enrolled in parenting and anger management classes.

Dad arrested for putting 13-year-old daughter in stranglehold; girl now in "custody of another parent" (Meridian, Idaho)
Well, it seems dad ADAM CHRISTOPER SIMONDS likes to play rough with teenage girls. His daughter is now in the "custody of another parent." Um, is that the politically correct way we say "mother" these days? Was this a custody/visitation situation? Why is this left (intentionally?) vague?
