  ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a central Kentucky man to nine years in prison in the death of his infant son.

The News-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/1vpupK3) reports the sentence was handed down on Tuesday for Jarrod D. Davis, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 1-month-old Ja'Vion Davis. The plea came following mediation and two trials that ended with hung juries.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors recommended a sentence of nine years, with parole eligibility in about 23 months.

Defense attorney Julie Kaelin argued for probation, but Judge Ken Howard said that would be too lenient for the loss of a child's life. He approved the deal that was reached in October.
