PEORIA, Ariz. -- A Phoenix father is accused of abusing his son at a Peoria church.
This happened Saturday at Christ's Church of the Valley at 70th Avenue and Happy Valley Road.
Witnesses say 37-year-old Bryan Greene hit his son with a soccer ball, and shook the young child violently. The boy is believed to be around four or five years old.
According to the police report, witnesses say Greene "lifted and carried the child by one arm... He dropped the child on the sidewalk and proceeded to shake the child by his shoulders again."
An off-duty police officer working at the church tried to stop Greene from leaving the area, and followed him into the parking lot.
According to the police reports, Greene ignored the officer and got in his vehicle.
Police say the officer stood in front of Greene's car to stop him from driving away. That's when Greene reportedly put the car in reverse, crashing into a security guard's golf cart.
Greene then drove forward, hitting the officer in the legs, according to the police report.
Police say the officer drew his firearm and hit it on the hood of the car as it drove toward him, because he feared for his own safety.
Greene was arrested a short time later. He faces several charges, including aggravated assault, child abuse, disorderly conduct and leaving the scene of an accident.
The off-duty officer and the security guard in the golf cart were not hurt. Police say the little boy also appeared to be unharmed.
