Joshua Spencer lashed out at partner Lisa Warburton after a party, causing her to drop tot Casey May onto a baby rocker, leaving a visible dent in her head Sentenced: Joshua Spencer was given 15 months in prison
A jealous dad inadvertently gave his four-month-old daughter a fractured skull after attacking his girlfriend who he'd accused of flirting with a neighbour.
Joshua Spencer lashed out at partner Lisa Warburton after a party, causing her to drop tot Casey May onto a baby rocker, leaving a visible dent in her head.
After the bust-up in June, the 21-year-old held his girlfriend hostage for 40 minutes inside the house despite her pleas their badly injured child needed urgent medical help.
Ms Warburton ran upstairs in the property in Skelmersdale, Lancs, and managed to scream out a window, alerting her dad who was nearby.
Yesterday Spencer was jailed for 15 months, and reporters successfully overturned an order that had banned his identity from being published.
The dad, Liverpool Crown Court heard, who has his daughter’s name tattooed on his neck, punched Ms Warburton in the face and then either bit or punched her left ear.
The shock caused her to drop Casey May, who she had been feeding, and her head hit the side of the baby rocker leaving her with a 4cm by 2cm impression in her head. The baby was not left with any permanent injuries.
Spencer pleaded guilty to common assault on her and grievous bodily harm on his daughter on the basis that the injury was reckless and not intentional.
Geoff Whelan, defending, said: “He was angry with his partner and lashed out at his partner. There was no intention to hurt Casey May.”
Judge Mark Brown, said: “I’m sure you accept this must be viewed as an extremely serious business.
“A very young child was seriously hurt because of your loss of temper and your willingness to use violence towards Lisa Warburton.”
He added: “As the father you had the responsibility to ensure the safety of Casey May. This sort of offence cannot be tolerated."
