DOTHAN, AL -- A Dothan man is behind bars on charges of aggravated child abuse. Dothan Police arrested 31-year-old Steevens Calixte, following an investigation that began with a tip from Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
On Wednesday, November 19th, Dothan Police responded to a call from SAMC on suspicious circumstances involving the abuse of a child.
Investigators say emergency personnel responded to the 500 block of New Hope Lane, to render medical aid to a male infant child who had stop breathing. After being transported to the hospital, physicians discovered injuries which led them to believe the child was a victim of child abuse.
Police questioned the child’s father, Steevens Calixte, and through that questioning, it was determined there was enough evidence to believe he was responsible for the child’s medical condition. The infant has been transported to Birmingham for further medical treatment.
Calixte was arrested and charged with Aggravated Child Abuse. His bond has been set at $250,000.
