LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Lexington father accused in his 2-month-old daughter's death answered to the charges Tuesday afternoon.
William McKenzie, 30, is charged with manslaughter. Lexington police say Ava Grace McKenzie suffocated from a blanket wrapped around her face.
Appearing in court in a video feed from jail, McKenzie requested a lawyer. He hopes to get out of jail in time to bury his baby.
"I've never been a danger to nobody. I can't make bond. I've got to bury my child right now, ma'am," said McKenzie, "ma'am I need a real attorney. The news done changed this stuff all the way around. All that never happened like that."
The judge did reduce McKenzie's bond to $25,000 full cash. He will be back in court November 21st.
Ava Grace's mother is still trying to raise money to pay for the baby's funeral.
