A young father of Moeti ward in Maun appeared before Maun Magistrate Clifford Foroma facing a single count of murder on Tuesday.
The accused person Gabriel Ntemogang was brought before the magistrate for killing his 13 months old daughter last week Friday.
According to Maun Police Acting Station Commander Neo Serumola, the accused left with the child after a misunderstanding with the 19- year-old mother around 1100hrs in the morning.
Serumola said the mother did not suspect anything since the accused usually went out with the kid.
“He strangled her to death with a necktie and later confided in his friend around 1500hours.
Serumola said that police investigations have indicated that Ntemogang had intended to commit suicide but failed to go through with the plan.
He apparently confided in a friend whom he asked what to do to solve the mess he had gotten himself into. The friend told the police about Ntshinogeng’s whereabouts.
“We found him near a sewerage pond holding the dead body,”Serumola said.
Police also found a necktie; done into a noose at the scene of crime.
The court reserved his plea since the investigations were still at an initial stage.
Looking confused and not familiar with the court language, the young man said he will conduct his own defence.
When asked if he objected to his remand Ntemogang said, “The court should not remand me because it was not my intention to kill her.” He will appear for another mention after 14 days.
