Local father admits to abusing 7-week-old twins

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A local father will not spend another day in jail after admitting to abusing his 7-week-old twins.

He first confessed in January, after his infant son died and his daughter ended up in the hospital.

Eyewitness News was in court on Friday, and asked attorneys why he didn't face a tougher sentence.

The assistant district attorney called it a loophole in the law that has since been fixed. It just was not fixed in time for the case.

Cory Geisler was silent when Eyewitness News asked him about the case involving his twin infants.

In January, Huntersville police were called to his home for an unresponsive child.

They found Geisler's 7-week-old son Aden limp, Geisler was doing CPR.

The baby died.

An autopsy showed he had been abused. A doctor confirmed so had his twin sister, Addison.

On Friday, Geisler pleaded guilty to two counts of felony child abuse.

Geisler was sentenced to supervised probation for the next two years.

The assistant district attorney said that sentence would be different if the crime was committed now.

"As of October of this year, the child abuse statute has changed and North Carolina has increased punishment for child abuse. This occurred prior to those changes," said the A-DA.

The sentence would now be a mandatory minimum of three years in prison. No charges were filed in the baby's death because the medical examiner could not determine the cause.

Geisler's former girlfriend moved to Texas taking his daughter Addison with her.
