Dad charged with felony child abuse for injuries sustained by 3-month-old son; mom "not present" for abuse, but still loses custody (Martinsville, VA)

Dad BRANDON GILES has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse for injuries sustained by his 3-month-old son. The baby suffered a broken arm, and had fractured rib injuries that were about 3 weeks old. Notice that Mom wasn't present when the abuse happened (She was working? What?) But she has lost custody anyway. This is fairly typical. Moms tend to be held to high standards in terms of protecting their young--even if they have to work to support the deadbeat "caretaking" daddy or are otherwise subjected to coercion, abuse, and/or threats.

Henry County investigators say the incident happened in this home, which led to the boy's father being arrested for child abuse.

Wednesday night they responded to a 911 call in the Axton area of Henry County on Stoney Mountain Road. Police say they found a 3 month old baby boy with a broken arm and he was taken to the hospital.

Henry County Police also say they discovered the baby had several fractured ribs from an unreported incident three weeks earlier. According to police, the child got the fractured ribs back on August 12th.

Investigators aren't releasing any other information on how exactly the boy got either of the injuries.

“No Trespassing” signs on the property prevented us from trying to get a comment from someone inside the home where the incident happened.

The boy's father, 20 year old Brandon Giles has been arrested and charged with two felony counts of child abuse. Giles was taken to the Henry County Jail where he is being held without bond.

An investigator told me the boy's mother, Sanie Bela, was not present when the abuse happened, but said the infant also is no longer in her custody.
