Dad charged with giving 5-year-old daughter alcohol during visit; child intoxicated to point of unconsciousness (Alexandria, Louisiana)

Mom was being more than fair and generous. She allowed her 5-year-old daughter to go over to Dad WILLIAM MOORE's house while the mother had to work that Sunday afternoon. But it seems Daddy's idea of quality time was getting this child drunk--to the point where she passed out shortly after being dropped off at Mom's house later that evening. And I don't mean "fell asleep" passed out. I mean seriously, dangerously intoxicated--body limp, eyes rolled back in her head. Mom called the police, and the girl was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Dad has been arrested and charged with 2nd-degree cruelty to a juvenile.

An Alexandria man was arrested after his 5-year-old daughter was taken to a hospital after he gave her alcohol, Alexandria Police said.

William Moore, 49, of 4325 Cornell Drive, Alexandria, was arrested and charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.

He also had outstanding warrants for forgery and contempt of court. The forgery charge stems from Moore reportedly cashing a check in someone else’s name on April 22.

According to the police report, the girl’s mother told her daughter that she could go to her father’s home around noon on Sunday while she was at work.

The woman said that the girl returned home around 8:15 p.m., and when she got out of her father’s vehicle, she was “acting kind of funny” and was unable to keep her balance.

The girl told her mother she’d been at a party with her father, the police report states. The mother said the girl appeared to be intoxicated, and a short time later the child was unable to control her body movements.

The mother had the child lie down on a couch, but the girl began to vomit. The mother called 911.

The woman said her daughter was drinking from a plastic bottle marked “Tum-E Yummies,” and that it smelled of alcohol when she got out of her father’s vehicle.

When police arrived, they noticed that the girl’s eyes were rolled to the back of her head and that her body was limp.

The girl was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Moore was arrested and booked into the Rapides Parish Jail.
