Now Dad is charged with stabbing both his daughter and her infant son, the grandchild of Rosales. Both mother and child are in critical condition. Daddy has been charged with 2 counts of attempted 1st-degree murder.

Lehigh double stabbing suspect had threatened daughter in past, documents show

1:32 P.M. — Manuel Rosales had threatened his daughter before, according to court documents.
According to court documents, Karminda Rosales Salazar, 20, filed a domestic violence injunction against her father, Manuel DeJesus Rosales, in May 2009.

Rosales has been arrested on charges of stabbing her and her infant Thursday night.

She wrote in the injunction her father told her she was talking on the phone too much. He broke the phone, so Salazar went to a neighbor’s house to call the police.

Rosales followed her, she wrote, pushing her and telling Salazar, who carried her 1-month-old son, to get out. He handed her a phone and told her to call the police, which she did.

As Salazar was walking out to meet the police, she wrote her father put a knife to her throat.

“Do you want to die?” he asked her.

Two months before, Rosales had choked Salazar, she wrote. She tried to file a domestic violence injunction against her father then, but was unable to.

11:22 a.m. update

A Lehigh Acres man has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, accused of slashing the throats of his 20-year-old daughter and her 3-month-old son.

The victims have been identified as the daughter and grandson of Manuel De Jesus Rosales, 43, of 1137 Gilbert Avenue South, but their names have not been released. Both victims remain in critical condition, according to reports from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. One of the victims was taken to Lehigh Regional Medical Center; the other to Lee Memorial Hospital.

A witness, identified as Maurice Afaro, who also lives at the residence, said the 21-year-old woman and Rosales got into a dispute, and the woman locked out Rosales from the house.

He gained entry by smashing out a rear sliding glass door.

He armed himself with a knife and stabbed the woman. She tried to flee but Rosales caught her in the driveway. He grabbed her and slashed her throat with the knife.

Rosales then went back into the residence and returned outside with the infant.

He stood over the woman, holding the infant so she could watch as he slashed the infant's throat with the knife. He then dropped the baby on the ground.

Another witness, identified as Mauricio Maldonado, who also lives at the residence, told investigators he saw Rosales slap his daughter several times after an altercation in the front yard of the residence. She yelled for help as Rosales attacked her, and Maldonado tried to stop him.
When Rosales retrieved the knife, he threatened Maldonado with it. Maldonado, fearing for his life, locked himself inside the house with two children.

He later went outside to find the woman with an injury to her neck. He called for medical help.
Maldonado then saw Rosales come back outside with the infant and heard him say, "Here's your bastard" as he slit the baby's throat in front of the mother.

Maldonado said he then saw Rosales slit the mother's throat two more times before walking back into the residence.

When deputies arrived, they found Rosales leaning against a van in the driveway.

There was a history of domestic violence between the woman and Rosales.

Neighbors told investigators the two were often heard arguing. They also said Rosales was known to drink heavily.

Deputies arrived to find the woman victim lying in the driveway in a pool of blood.

Deputies noticed a gash on her neck that appeared to go from around the rear of the neck. Her right index finger was severed at the middle knuckle.

The infant was lying next to the woman. The woman appeared to be conscious and breathing but was unresponsive.

The infant was covered in blood and did not appear to be breathing. Rosales had an apparent knife wound to his index finger that was bleeding heavily.

Blood splatters were found in the residence moving from a rear bedroom area, down the main hallway and out the front door.

Deputies then took Rosales, who was covered in blood into custody.

Rosales had been arrested for domestic violence in 2008, according to sheriff’s records. He also had two injunctions, one for repeat violence and one for domestic violence, out against him in 2009.

According to court records, Rosa Gonzalez had an injunction for repeat violence placed on Rosales from April 1-13, 2009. And from May 13-20, 2009, he had a domestic violence injunction that prohibited him from seeing Karminda Rosales Salazar.

Scott Bowens lives just across from the residence where the stabbing occurred. He's lived there for two months, and conditions have been relatively quiet since he's lived there.

He said he didn't know a stabbing occurred until this morning.

"My wife, sons and I were watching television, and we did not hear a single thing," he said.
He said it is a unsettling to know such a crime could happen so close to where he lives.

"It's very frightening," he said. "I've had my concerns about the neighborhood, but everybody seems pretty nice."

Bowens said he didn't know the neighbors who were involved in the incident.

He said he will be more cautious in the area after last night's incident.

"To see something like that happen, it scares me immensely," he said. "I will be very aware of things around me."
