Dad JACOB SHAFFER, who is charged with killing his "estranged" wife, her teenage son, and 3 others, is hoping for a change of venue for his trial.

Defense seeks venue change in 5 Tennessee slayings
Associated Press - May 18, 2010 8:44 AM ET

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A man charged with murdering his estranged wife and four others in southern Tennessee has a hearing on motions that include a defense request to pick jurors outside Lincoln County.

Jacob Shaffer is expected in a Fayetteville courtroom Tuesday. The hearing was delayed from earlier this month when flooding interfered with prisoners being transported from Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.

Shaffer's estranged wife, Tracie, her teenage son, her father, her brother and a teenage neighbor were slain in Lincoln County in July 2009. Shaffer is also the suspect in the fatal beating of a man in Huntsville, Ala.

His trial is set for January 2011.
