Man arrested for sexually abusing daughter in Mumbai

A 40-year-old tempo driver was arrested here for allegedly raping his daughter on more than one occasion in suburban Saki Naka, police said on Tuesday.

Chandu Suryavanshi was arrested yesterday night for sexually abusing his daughter from his first wife, who passed away three years ago after a prolonged illness, police said.

The victim, in her statement to the police, stated that her father Chandu, in an inebriated state, used to pounce on her to sexually abuse her whenever she was alone at home and later threatened her of dire consequences if she reveals it, they added.

He raped the victim on three occasions since March at his residence, they said.

Chandu resides with his five daughters from his previous marriage, his present wife and their two sons at Ambedkar Nagar slums in Saki Naka area, police said. Chandu had remarried in a year after his first wife passed away three years ago, they said.

The victim, who kept mum over the issue, finally broke her silence to her grand mother, who along with other family members registered a complaint against Chandu yesterday, they said.

The victim has been sent to a hospital for a medical check up and test. Chandu was today produced before a local court which remanded him in police custody till June 7, they added.
