Vroman receives sentence for death of 2-year-old son

A Leavenworth man was sentenced Thursday to nearly 13 years in prison for the 2007 death of his 2-year-old son.

Robert D. Vroman’s sentencing came after he pleaded no contest last month in Leavenworth County District Court to second-degree murder and abuse of a child.

The charges stemmed from the death of Vroman’s son, Devin Trapp, who reportedly suffered severe head trauma while in his father’s care.

Vroman, 25, had been charged with first-degree murder but the charge was amended as part of a plea agreement.

Vroman has remained in custody since being arrested for his son’s murder in August 2007.

The boy’s mother, Alisha Trapp, spoke during Thursday’s sentencing hearing.

“A mother is never supposed to bury her children,” she said.

Trapp said the case had been dragged out for 2.5 years and Vroman never showed any remorse.
She said her son “deserves justice, and he did not deserve what happened to him.”
