The Enquirer • January 23, 2010
SHAKEN BABY: A Battle Creek man, 25, was arrested Friday on a charge of first degree aggravated child abuse after Battle Creek police said the man’s son was taken to the hospital.
Police were called about 5:15 p.m. after the man’s five-month old child was taken to Battle Creek Health System and then to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo with what doctors told police were injuries likely caused by being shaken.
The baby’s father told police he was feeding the child at the home of the baby’s mother on West Rittenhouse Avenue when the baby began choking. The man called for an ambulance but then took the baby to Battle Creek Health System in his car.
Police said the child was unconscious and using a breathing machine at the hospital. The case remains under investigation.
