Dad convicted on 1987 murder to be released (Dugger, Indiana)

Convicted killer/dad JERRY CLIVER is to be released from prison today. He seriously injured his ex-wife and murdered her boyfriend in 1987. Cliver also took a potshot at a Florida State Trooper, but the Trooper survived because he had a bullet-proof vest on. Cliver's two children were in the home at the time of their mother's shooting, and yet we are told that they were "unharmed." Really? Maybe physically, but children never forget the trauma of this kind of event.

One of Indiana's most notorious murderers becomes a free man Monday.

Jerry Cliver, a former Indiana state trooper, has been imprisoned in Florida since 1987.

25 years ago, Cliver went to the Dugger home of his ex-wife. There he shot and killed her boyfriend, 38-year-old Donald Clayton, and seriously injured his ex-wife Jerri Lynn Cliver.

Cliver's two young children were in the house at the time but were unharmed.

Cliver was captured, but two weeks before his trial he escaped from the Sullivan County jail and eluded police for over a year. During that time, he racked up numerous felonies ranging from auto theft to attempted murder.

Cliver was finally caught in Florida after he shot a Florida state trooper, who survived because he was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Cliver agreed to a plea deal of over 40 years in prison, but racked up enough gain time, the Indiana equivalent of good time credit for good behavior, to cut his prison time in half.

According to records filed with the Florida Department of Correction, the 56-year-old Cliver, whose birthday is Tuesday, plans to move to Sullivan, Indiana after is release.
