Dad accused of beating 3-month-old son (Pettis County, Missouri)

Dad TIMOTHY SCHRILLS is accused of beating his 3-month-old son, leaving the baby with two broken arms, a broken wrist, and a fractured skull. As is often the case in these stories, Dad made up a bogus cover story. Turns out to be the usual scenario: Dad got "frustrated" because the baby was crying. The mom wants to block Dad from ever having anything to do with the child again. Good luck with that wish--sometimes the courts are really bizarre about stuff like that. It's "alienating," you know. Not letting someone who almost killed your child visit with him.

PETTIS COUNTY, Mo. -- A Pettis County, Mo., father is being charged with first-degree assault after police said he beat his 3-month-old son Monday night.

Timothy Schrills was charged Monday night with first-degree assault that left his baby son with two broken arms, a broken wrist and a fractured skull.

Originally Schrills told police and emergency officials that his son had fallen out of his bouncer. Doctors at a local hospital quickly disagreed, saying the injuries were too severe to match up with Schrills' story.

"The injuries didn't match up to the suspect's story," Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond said.

By the end of the night Monday, Sheriff's officials said Schrills' story changed and he admitted he became frustrated when the baby didn't stop crying. Schrills told sheriff's officers he picked the boy up by his arms, then put him down so hard the boy's head hit the floor behind him. When the crying continued, Schrills said, he put the boy in a dresser drawer and went outside to calm down.

The boy's mother, Sara Theirfelder, brought the boy home from the hospital Wednesday night. She spoke exclusively to KCTV5.

"We saw marks on his arms," Theirfelder said. "I never would have pictured his dad doing this."

Theirfelder said she will lean on her family to get through some tough times that may lie ahead.

"I think what he did is wrong," Theirfelder said. "He's not allowed to have anything to do with our son now. I don't know what's going to happen from here."
