Matthew Anthony Scott faces a murder charge, as well as one charge each for felonious assault and child endangering, the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department said in a release.
Though the police department did not name the young girl, local media have identified her as 3-month-old Alivia Scott.
A call came in around 4:30pm on February 5 - leading both police and fire authorities to show up at family's Cuyahoga Falls home, the Cuyahoga Falls police said. 'Upon arrival, they found a 3 month old baby that was unresponsive,' the police department's release said. Authorities said that the baby was taken to the Akron Children's Hospital. '
After treatment and evaluation by hospital personnel and a police investigation, it was determined that the infant was injured as a result of an assault,' the release said.
Cuyahoga Falls police said that 'As a result of its injuries, the 3 month old infant passed away at Akron Children's Hospital on 2/16/15.'
According to Cuyahoga Falls police, Alivia was being looked after by her 29-year-old father on February 5.
Scott was apprehended Monday in Akron by Cuyahoga Falls detectives, police said, and that he was being taken to the Summit County Jail.
On Tuesday, Scott will make his first court appearance, Cleveland.com reported.
Jaclyn McCormick, the fiancee of Alivia's grandfather, told 19 Action News of the girl's wounds 'Three-fourths of her skull has been fractured.'
McCormick also described the 3-month-old girl as 'Very cute. She was always smiling. I would be goofy with her and she was starting to smile.'
'She means a lot to all of us,' McCormick told the television station.

Dad arraigned on allegations of beating son; boy has "extensive bruising" (Laramie, Wyoming)
Hmm. Notice that there is no mention of the mother, just an (unidentified) "woman in the residence." Also notice the father's pattern of coercive control, in not letting the boy out of the house for several days.
The evidence strongly leans towards this being a single or custodial father. But as usually happens, the media is quite circumspect about reporting the custodial arrangements behind crimes against kids. Except when it's mom's boyfriend. Everybody likes to jump on those.
Dad is identified as JASON ROGER MOORE.

Man arraigned on allegations he beat his son with PVC pipe, sauce pan
By CHILTON TIPPIN • Saturday, February 14, 2015
A Laramie man pleaded not guilty Friday to a child abuse charge stemming from allegations he beat his son.
Jason Roger Moore, 36, was arrested after his son showed up at the Laramie Youth Crisis Center and said his father beat him with his hands, a section of black PVC pipe and a metal sauce pan, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The son’s age was not given in court documents.
An Albany County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at the Youth Crisis Center on Jan. 17 and saw “extensive bruising on the backs of both arms, upper back, right abdomen and right thigh” of the minor, according to the affidavit.
The deputy also noted a one-inch cut between the child’s eyes.
During questioning, the boy told the deputy his father beat him Jan. 15, according to the affidavit.
The boy told the deputy he could not get away from the residence or use a phone without his father noticing for a couple of days, according to the affidavit.
The deputy and a Sheriff’s Office corporal interviewed Moore on Jan. 17.
During questioning, Moore said the boy had taken cookies and other items from a room in the house without permission, according to the affidavit.
As a result, Moore said he struck the boy with his hands and hit him with a PVC pipe “across his arms and legs.”
A woman in the residence intervened and pulled Moore off the child, according to the affidavit.
Moore told officers “he couldn’t remember striking (the child) with a sauce pan, but agreed it was possible,” according to the affidavit.
On Jan. 18, officers interviewed the woman who was in the residence. She stated Moore beat the boy “excessively with an unknown object” before she pulled him off, according to the affidavit.
Officers later searched the residence and found a metal sauce pan and a section of black PVC pipe, both of which were consistent with the boy’s description, according to the affidavit.
If convicted, Moore faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
He remains in custody on a $15,000 cash bond, and his trial is set for June 23.

Father appears in court accused of suffocating 14-week-old baby son after he forced pacifier in his mouth to stop him crying
Told police he had bruised son's ears by squeezing them
Autopsy found baby Zade also had a fractured rib

Faces sentence of 25 years to life if convicted

A father accused of killing his baby boy by suffocation after forcing a pacifier in his mouth, has pleaded not guilty.
Danny Adams, 24, of Lewiston is charged with depraved indifference murder and manslaughter in the death of his infant son following his death in December.
He denied the charges Justice MaryGay Kennedy read from a grand jury indictment, handed up last week.
Police said Adams forced a pacifier into the mouth of his 14-week-old son, Zade, shortly before he stopped breathing.
They said he told them he was frustrated that his son would not stop crying so put a pacifier in Jade's mouth and forced him to stay on his stomach by pushing on his back.
An autopsy determined the cause of death was asphyxiation.
Hornblower said he expects a bail hearing to be set to determine whether Adams will be held in jail without bail or allowed release prior to his trial.
Assistant Attorney General Matthew Crockett asked that Adams be barred from contacting Zade's mother, Kaitlyn Baker, 18. Kennedy agreed.
Adams has been held without bail since his arrest in early January following the death of his son on December 14.
A murder conviction in Maine carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison; manslaughter, up to 30 years.
Adams told police in an earlier interview that he had injected heroin the night before at a friend's house, then smoked marijuana with Baker when he got home. He said he had bruised Zade's ears when he squeezed them with his thumb and fingers as he held the head of the baby, who continued to cry, according to court documents.
Adams said he caused bruising on Zade's forehead when he forced a pacifier in the baby's mouth and held it in place with his palm, while supporting his fingers on the baby's forehead.
Doctors also detected a rib fracture during the autopsy. He told police he had become frustrated with Zade's crying about four weeks earlier and had squeezed the baby with force.

Father in court for baby's murder
16 February 2015 at 11:36 by Sapa - A man accused of killing his two-day-old baby when he used her as a weapon to attack his girlfriend, is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday, Gauteng police said.
The woman told the police that, during an argument in their flat, the man asked her if he was the baby's father, Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier said. "He then hit the mother with the baby," she said.
The couple then left the flat and walked to a petrol station at the corner of Church and Rebecca streets in Pretoria West.
The police called Best Care ambulance services, which arrived to treat the baby around 3am on Sunday.
They found the infant wrapped in a towel and drowning in its own vomit, spokesman Xander Loubser said.
According to Beeld, the mother told paramedics that, after hitting her with the child, the father threw it on the ground.
She apparently had a wound on her forehead.
The two were taken to a nearby hospital where the baby died.

Custodial dad gets 17 years for sexually abusing daughter over seven years (Queensland, Australia)
This is the second conviction I have seen this month of an Australian custodial father being convicted of sexual abuse. See this other account which at first I thought was the same dad, but is apparently not.
Now we see that apart from all the late-to-the-table moral outrage expressed by Judge Conlon, UNNAMED DAD was coddled by the psychiatric establishment and the courts in cahoots with them. There was only some modicum of justice in this case after years of pushing.
SHAME on Dr. Olav Niellsen and all the other pedophile and child rapist enablers. They should rot in jail too.

Sick sex monster father to rot in jail for at least 17 years
Janet Fife-Yeomans The Daily Telegraph February 17, 2015 12:00AM
“When fathers like the offender are exposed for their horrific crimes, the community expects the courts will impose severe punishment,” Judge Conlon said.
A TRUCK driver will spend at least 17 years in jail for the sexual abuse of his daughter in one of the longest sentences handed down to a paedophile father in Australia.
In sentencing the 49-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter, Judge Paul Conlon said it was what the community expected.
The man was jailed for at least 13 years in Campbelltown District Court yesterday after being extradited from Queensland, where he has spent four years behind bars for incest.
“In this country, for the overwhelming majority of fathers, the love they have for their daughters is such that they would give their own lives to protect and keep them safe from harm,” Judge Conlon said.
“When fathers like the offender are exposed for their horrific crimes, the community expects the courts will impose severe punishment.”
The man, who had custody of his daughter and her brothers after he split up with their mother, had groomed his daughter from the age of 12, sexually assaulting her at least every two weeks including “brutal and humiliating” vaginal and anal sex, the judge said. The children lived with their father and his new wife in NSW and moved to Queensland after the girl completed Year 12, where the abuse continued.
Judge Conlon, who has a reputation for handing down tough sentences to child sex offenders, said the truck driver had exploited her youth “in the worst possible way”.
“He has groomed his own daughter, turning her into his sexual play thing,” the judge said.
He was critical of psychiatrist Dr Olav Nielssen who told the court the repeated sexual abuse over seven years had been “opportunistic”.
Judge Conlon said the psychiatrist had seemed to treat “without any critical evaluation” the man’s comments that he had trouble “showing his feelings” to his daughter and had not known how to express himself.
“In my view, it is inappropriate to use the word ‘opportunistic’ when dealing with persistent sexual abuse of a child over a period of seven years. I am unable to have much confidence in this future risk assessment,” Judge Conlon said.
His daughter, now 28, went to Queensland police in 2007. The father was sentenced in Queensland to a maximum of four years with a non-parole term of just one year four months after telling the psychiatrist that “he and his daughter had a very close and open relationship and that he really loved her”.
He had pleaded guilty to three counts of raping his daughter.
He served four years after parole was refused because he had initially refused to complete a sex offenders course. He was extradited to NSW in November 2013. He has been in jail awaiting sentence on another 12 counts to which he pleaded guilty.
Judge Conlon said it was difficult not to feel revulsion. “Even allowing for the frequency with which I have to confront this type of offending conduct, it is never an easy task.”

Dad who killed 4-year-old daughter during visitation is supposedly "mentally incompetent" (Lubbock, Texas)
So if killer dad JUSTIN CHISOLM's schizophrenia is so severe and uncontrolled that he is "mentally incompentent", then why was he ever granted child visitation rights--supervised or unsupervised? Because frankly, for men this volatile and violent, having an unarmed/untrained "supervisor" around is no protection. JOSH POWELL killed his little boys with an axe and burned his house down during supervised visitation--after he managed to lock the supervisor outside.
Once again, we see how even certifiably mentally ill fathers are granted their "rights"--all at the expense of the kids.
Do you really think this little girl benefited in any way, shape, or form by having ongoing contact with this lunatic? Obviously not.
This is not to say that I don't have sympathy for people with mental illnesses. I just have more sympathy for kids who are stabbed to death--all because they forced into contact with violent, homicidal fathers.

Father says son accused in child's death is mentally incompetent
Michael Chisum says son has long history of mental illness

The father of a 29-year-old Lubbock man accused in the Feb. 1 slaying of his 4-year-old daughter said his son is mentally incompetent to take care of himself.
Michael Stephen Chisum filed Monday in Lubbock County Court at Law 2 an application to be appointed as the temporary guardian of Justin Chisum.
A hearing is set for Feb. 23, according to court documents.
Michael Chisum’s lawyer, Laura Beth Pleasant, declined to comment on the case until after the hearing.
Lubbock police arrested Justin Chisum Feb. 1 after they found the body of his daughter, Kylee Forrest, in the living room of his apartment.
Police said the girl died from blunt force trauma in a violent attack.
Chisum was reportedly naked when police apprehended him and admitted to officers he killed the girl, according to a warrant.
Courtney Forrest, who was Kylee Forrest’s legal guardian, told the A-J that Justin Chisum suffers from schizophrenia and was taking medication to treat it.
Michael Chisum, who resides in Addison, said in court documents his son has “a long history of mental illness, having been hospitalized and treated in at least seven different psychiatric hospitals spread among three different states over the past decade.”
He said his son is in need of medical treatment but is incapable of consenting to any because of his mental state.
Justin Chisum was booked Feb. 2 into the Lubbock County Detention Center where he remains at present.
His bond is set at $ 1 million, according to court records.

Police say Eduardo Mahones violently shook daughter
ALLENTOWN, Pa.` - An Allentown man is facing charges after police say he violently shook his two-month-old baby.
Police were called to Lehigh Valley Hospital Jan. 26 for a possible child abuse case.
The infant girl was treated at LVH, and found to have severe head injuries that officials say are consistent with child abuse.
When police interviewed the baby's father, 23-year-old Eduardo Mahones, on Feb. 2, he said on Jan. 26, around 4:45 p.m., his wife went to the store and left him to babysit.
According to court papers, the baby started to cry and would not stop. Mahones told police he picked her up and shook her three to four times, causing her to lose consciousness.
An LVH doctor told police the baby suffered severe injuries that has caused neurological delays and in all likelihood will cause her to have neurological developmental delays.
The doctor said these injuries were consistent with the baby being shaken violently.
Mahones, of rthe 1700 block of S. Church St., was charged with simple assault against a child under 12, endangering the welfare of children, and aggravated assault.
