A 32-year-old man raped his two-month-old son and sent footage of the attack to a paedophile ring, a trial in Norway has heard.

The father admitted the offences yesterday at the start of what the prosecutor described as one of the most 'serious abuse cases in Norwegian legal history'.

He has been charged with two other men and two women with their involvement in a paedophile network which filmed their own children in sexual positions or acts.

District Attorney Kristin Røhne said: 'The people involved had a sexual interest in very young children.'

The court in Drammen was told police began tracking the paedophile ring last year after finding sickening footage of the rape on the computer of a suspected child abuser.

Mr Røhne said in a prosecution statement: 'We knew nothing about this child, but on the video we could hear the sound of voices from Norwegian radio or television in the background.'

The video was traced to a 34-year-old man who was allegedly sent the footage by the 32-year-old father, it was reported by The Local which cited a report by Norway's Aftenposten newspaper.

The 34-year-old is said to have previously been convicted of sexually assaulting a minor and distributing videos of child abuse in 2009.

The two men have appeared in court alongside a 27-year-old man and two women aged 27 and 43.

They have all been charged with involvement in a paedophile network which filmed their own children in sexual positions or acts.

The three men have also been charged with raping the 27-year-old woman's two-month-old baby.

A lawyer for the 32-year-old man told the court: 'My client has chosen to confess to all charges and lay all his cards on the table.'

The trial continues.

Dad sentenced for rape, felony murder of 2-month-old daughter during his visitation; eligible for parole in 30 years (San Antonio, Texas)

Dad is identified as DOMINIQUE MARTEZ REED.

This case is additional evidence of one of our Dastardly Dads axioms: The father's custodial status will be forgotten by the time he goes to trial. According to our earlier post, the rape and murder of this infant took place during the father's visitation.

Father sentenced for death of infant daughter

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED ON MySA: A 25-year-old father originally charged with capital murder in the death of his infant daughter was sentenced Monday to life in prison.

District Attorney Nicholas “Nico” LaHood said the plea, which downgraded the charge to murder and was offered by the previous administration, is not one his office would have signed off on in the case of Dominique Martez Reed.

“I wouldn’t have approved this plea,” he said, clarifying that didn’t mean his office would have necessarily sought the death penalty. “I wouldn’t have waived the capital charges.”

A defendant convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life does not have the option of parole. Reed, convicted of felony murder, will be eligible for parole in 30 years.

In November, state District Judge Ron Rangel approved the agreement in which Reed pleaded no contest to murder.

The plea was open, meaning Rangel had the full punishment range of five years to life to consider Monday.

Reed was arrested in October 2010 after 2-month-old Zaniyah Reed was pronounced dead at a hospital from injuries that included 14 rib fractures, indications of sexual assault, a lacerated pancreas and liver, a distended stomach and scalp hemorrhages, court documents show.

Reed, who was alone with the child when authorities allege the injuries occurred, returned the child to her mother wrapped in a blanket and unresponsive.

Initially, he denied to police that he was responsible for the injuries, though later he confessed to punching the child when she wouldn’t stop crying.

He adamantly denied responsibility for the alleged sexual assault.

LaHood, alongside assistant district attorney Scott Simpson, represented the state in the proceedings Monday.

It marked the first time LaHood was back in court since being elected district attorney in November.

The state presented evidence from a medical examiner who called it the worst case of abuse involving an infant death that she had seen.

After sentencing, LaHood spoke briefly to the mother and grandmother of Zaniyah Reed, who were overcome with emotion and declined to read a victim impact statement they had prepared.

He said they viewed the punishment as the “next step in closure.”

“Nothing is going to bring that child back,” LaHood said. “People are not going to abuse children — or anyone for that matter, but in this case children — and think they’re going to get away with it.”

A West Mansfield area man was recently indicted by a Union County grand jury for allegedly physically abusing his infant son.

Garrett Rey Garcia, 21, of 31494 State Route 31, has been charged with one count of felonious assault and endangering children, the Marysville Journal-Tribune reports.

In November, the defendant’s son reportedly was taken by his mother to Nationwide Children’s Hospital Child Assessment Center in Columbus, where it was determined the child had bruising and a history of bruising as well as bleeding in the left eye.

Dad sentenced for abusing 5-month-old son; baby has permanent disabilities (Virginia Beach, Virginia)

Dads with a "prior conviction of assault and battery of a family member" probably don't make the best infant caregivers.

Father sentenced for shaking baby, causing brain damage

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man will spend the next three decades in prison for abusing his 5-month-old son to the point of permanent brain damage.

In Virginia Beach Circuit Court Monday, 32-year-old Charles Adam Potter was sentenced to a 30-year prison term for aggravated malicious wounding and child abuse/neglect. The punishment was much greater than the maximum 12-year term recommend by Virginia State Sentencing Guidelines, according to Macie Pridgen with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

On October 24, 2012, Potter and his wife took their son to the CHKD emergency room in Norfolk and told doctors they heard popping noises in his back, according to the Commonwealth’s evidence. Medical scans showed the child’s ribs had been fractured, and a physician’s evaluation revealed evidence of bleeding in the infant’s brain.

Doctors determined the injuries were the result of the baby having been shaken and caused him to develop cerebral palsy. The child “will suffer from physical and intellectual defects for the remainder of his life,” Pridgen said.

Potter was arrested the next month, and during a recorded phone call from the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, he admitted to his wife that he “snapped” when he couldn’t calm their son down.

Potter, who has a prior conviction of assault and battery of a family member, filed an Alford plea this past November. An Alford plea is a type of guilty plea wherein the suspect admits only that the prosecution has enough evidence to persuade a jury to convict him.

Potter physically abused causing severe, permanent injuries to the child’s physical and intellectual well-being.

Dad in "custody battle" murders 9- and 12-year-old sons (United Kingdom)

A lot of unquestioned fathers rights spin here. Poor (killer) daddy was "worried" about maintaining child access. This is nonsense. Darren Sykes is a deliberate, cold-blooded child killer who should have been denied all child access. No access=no victims.

Custody battle father used new train set in the loft to lure his two young sons to their deaths in arson attack on his home
Darren Sykes, 44, died alongside his two sons in a house fire in October
He had barricaded them into the attic of his property in south Yorkshire
Lured the children with an £800 train set bought on the morning of death
Evidence showed eldest son, 12, tried to escape by opening attic hatch
He died in hospital five days later while younger brother died at the scene
An inquest heard newly-divorced father was worried about custody rights
Family court liaisons met with police two days before to discuss the case

A newly-divorced father who used a train set to lure his two young sons to their deaths in a 'terrible' arson attack had been worried about his access rights to the children, an inquest has heard.

Darren Sykes died alongside Paul, nine, and Jack, 12, after setting a fire in his home and locking himself and the boys in the attic.

The 44-year-old had been worried about how much he would be able to see the children after recently divorcing from their mother, Sheffield Coroner's Court heard.

Mr Sykes died in the attic after inhaling smoke while Paul's body was found near the edge of the loft.

Jack, who was found unconscious next to its hatch door, died in hospital five days later.

In the days before his death the father of two from Penistone, south Yorkshire, sent letters to a bank telling them he 'would not be alive' to pay his mortgage.

On October 22, when the three were killed in the fire, he sent a text message to a handful of friends saying 'he was going to be at peace'.

Concluding that the carpet estimator had intended to take his own life, Sheffield coroner Chris Dorries said: 'The whole business is absolutely terrible. Following a police statement which described the ongoing custody battle between Mr Sykes and his estranged wife Claire, he added: 'He may have taken the view he would have less access.'

On the morning of his death Mr Sykes spent £800 on a model railway track before sending text messages to both his sons asking them to visit him at his house that day.

Before luring them into the attic he sprayed four cans of petrol across the ground floor of the house and barricaded doors with furniture.

He had also tied the front and back garden gates with cord to prevent anyone from accessing the property.

'The door to the stairs had been wedged to stop anyone coming down and there were chairs behind the front door as if to prevent people coming in,' said special fire investigator Michael Mason.

Evidence suggested Mr Sykes's eldest son Jack made a desperate attempt to escape as flames ravaged the floors beneath them.

'At some point during the fire the loft hatch was closed and then opened during the fire which allowed a plume of smoke with gases to enter the loft.

'It was a natural reaction to try to get out.'

Explaining how investigators knew it was Jack rather than his father of young brother who tried to escape, he added: 'Opening the hatch made the position untenable.'

Recording a verdict of suicide, coroner Dorries said it was 'abundantly clear' Mr Sykes had set the fire which killed him and his two sons.

'All three were inside the loft with the hatch closed when the fire took hold.

'There is no evidence that it was set by anyone else other than Mr Sykes. He intended to take his own life.'

An inquest into the boys’ deaths will be held later this week.

Dad charged with assaulting 2-month-old daughter; baby has permanent neurological damage (Lehigh County, Pennsylania)

It appears that dad EDUARDO MAHONES had been babysitting for just a short time when he assaulted his 2-month-old daughter for crying. Yet another example why volatile, young male caretakers are a bad idea....

Baby has permanent neurological damage after alleged shaking by father, prosecutor says

By Sarah Cassi | lehighvalleylive.com on February 27, 2015 at 11:27 AM, updated February 27, 2015 at 12:12 PM

Allentown police say a city man seriously injured his baby daughter after violently shaking her. #A 2-month-old girl has permanent neurological damage, the extent of which won't be known for some time, after allegedly being shaken by her father, prosecutors said Friday.

Lehigh County Deputy District Attorney Matt Falk revealed the girl's diagnosis at the preliminary hearing for her father, Eduardo Mahones.

Mahones, 23, waived his hearing on charges of aggravated assault of a child, child endangerment and simple assault. The charges now go to Lehigh County Court, where Mahones faces trial. #Mahones is in Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail and defense attorney Gavin Holihan asked a reduction in bail.

Mahones arrived in Pennsylvania 10 months ago from Puerto Rico, where he grew up. In Puerto Rico, he was charged in May with possession of a dangerous drug, but Lehigh County Pretrial Services does not know the resolution to that case.

District Judge Michael Faulkner kept bail the same.

Allentown police said Mahones violently shook the baby until she was unconscious, causing multiple hemorrhages.

Allentown police say the girl was treated for severe head injuries at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township and a child abuse investigation began Jan. 26.

In an interview with police, Mahones told officers that on the evening of Jan. 26 his wife went to the store and left the baby in his care. Mahones said the baby was crying and would not stop, and that he picked up the baby and shook her three or four times until she was unconscious, police said.

Dr. Debra Esernio-Jenssen, a child abuse expert, said the child suffered multiple subdural hemorrhages, and the injuries were consistent with being violently shaken, records say.

Baby in critical condition in suspected child abuse case

Oakland County Sheriff's Office
Posted: 02/27/15, 11:11 AM EST | Updated: 1 day ago

A 7-month-old baby is in critical condition from a head injury in a suspected child abuse case in Pontiac.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Royal Oak Beaumont hospital to meet with Children’s Protective Services regarding a suspected child abuse around 9:21 a.m. Thursday.

The 7-month-old baby boy had been transferred from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac with severe head injuries. The child’s father stated he accidentally bumped the child’s head on a railing at a residence on the 60 block of Leonard Lane in Pontiac, according to a report released by the sheriff’s office.

The baby is in critical condition at this time.

Detectives responded to investigate the call and the father and mother were transported to the Pontiac substation for questioning. The father, an 18-year-old Pontiac resident, was lodged at Oakland County Jail on an unrelated warrant, while the mother was released.

An investigation is ongoing.
