Two arrests in child abuse probe

STOCKTON - A man and a woman were arrested Tuesday in south Stockton after a child-abuse investigation also turned up evidence of prostitution, authorities said.
The investigation began when an emergency room nurse contacted the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office on Monday to report a severe case of child abuse involving a 10-year-old boy, officials said. On Tuesday, detectives from the Sheriff's Office learned the victim's 8-year-old brother had also been abused, authorities said.
Investigators served a search warrant in the 2800 block of South El Dorado Street, where they uncovered evidence of pimping and prostitution, said Deputy Les Garcia, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.
John Baxter, 31, the father of the two boys, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse, child endangerment, pimping and pandering, and conspiracy, authorities said. Ashley Johnson, 25, who is not related to the child-abuse victims, was arrested on suspicion of pimping and pandering and conspiracy, officials said.

ELGIN, Okla. – An Oklahoma father is in police custody after authorities intercepted an internet chat regarding lewd proposals with his young child.
According to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, Lieutenant Adam Flowers, a member of the OSBI’s Internet Crimes against Children state wide task force took Frankie Tahsequah, 39, of Elgin, into custody after authorities intercepted an internet chat where Tahsequah offered an adult male the opportunity to have sex with his four year old son.
Police say during a lengthy interview and examination of a cell phone, Lt. Flowers determined Tahsequah was in possession of child pornography, and that he had been actively trading in child pornography as well.
The Elgin man allegedly admitted to authorities that he possessed the long time fantasy of having a sexual relationship with a small child.
However, he denied ever acting on it.
Canadian County Sheriff Randall Edwards said, “These monsters will do anything to fulfill their twisted fantasies, and while Tahsequah denies ever having abused a child, it’s only a matter of time until these people act out their fantasy and destroy a child’s life.”
Tahsequah was booked into the Commanche County Jail with charges of Possession of Child Pornography and Violations of the Computer Crimes Act.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — With his three-year-old son in the car, police said Patrick Williams tried to pick up a prostitute for oral sex on busy Ridgewood Avenue, but the working woman police say he was soliciting, was actually working undercover.
"I never solicited in any way. She came over, offered everything. It's a big entrapment. Police sting," Williams told WESH 2.
Police Chief Mike Chitwood said the Ridgewood area is a hot spot for prostitutes, and taking his son along for the ride was a dangerous and stupid move.
"I said I got my kid. She said 'that's cool, I've got a room.' I said yeah, yeah whatever. Then we turn around to get away from my car. As soon as I turned, drove way away. Blocks up the road, they lit me up."
"He's a father, married man. Normally on Ridgewood Avenue are these disease-infested prostitutes," Chitwood said. "You run the risk to get robbed or whatever else you want to do and you think it's okay to bring your 4-year-old kid with you?"
Williams said he wasn't doing anything shady with the woman he believed was a prostitute on Ridgewood. In fact, he said, while on the way to buy his kids toys, he stopped to pray for the woman. The police report paints a much different story.
In the arrest affidavit, police said the undercover officer told Williams, "she had a room and said that the child could watch cartoons."
Williams allegedly told the officer he would turn around, keeping his back to the child, so the toddler wouldn't see the sexual act.
Williams said his wife was angry and that he "explained the situation. The reality is I thought it was some crazy crackhead. I felt bad for her, prayed for her and drove off."
To make matters worse, the child who police said was almost a witness to his own father involved with a prostitute, instead had to watch his father be led away in handcuffs.
"He cried. Three-year-old son crying," Williams said. "We were on the way to go buy him some toys. It's causing so many problems. Soon to be ex-wife is pissed about it. It's just been a terrible situation."
Williams said he plans on fighting the charges.
Meanwhile, Chitwood said in the past two weeks, police have arrested 50 people in the same area for prostitution.

MUMBAI: In a horrific case of incest, a 50-year-old man was arrested by the Malwani police on Wednesday for having raped his daughter for the last 11 years. The 26-year-old survivor also has an eight-year-old daughter fathered by him.
She summoned courage to seek help now because she found out that her father was planning to get married to her. The accused shuttles between Jaipur and Mumbai for work, while his wife, son and daughter live in Malwani.
The police have learnt that the accused is involved in forcing women into prostitution. "There are reports that he had brought a minor from another state and confined her in his house. His daughter has been sent for a medical examination," said an officer.
The survivor's ordeal began when she was 15 years old. "The accused initially told his daughter that he was teaching her about human anatomy; he then raped her regularly. Her mother got wind of the goings-on, but the accused would thrash her as well as his daughter and often confined them in the house and starved them. He also ensured that his daughter did not get married," said the officer.
Whenever the survivor resisted, he would threaten to kill her mother and brother.
The survivor got pregnant when she was 18 years old. The accused got her admitted to a public hospital and submitted a fake name when asked about the baby's father.
"When the survivor recently learnt that her father was getting papers ready to tie the knot with her, she broke down. A social worker noticed her and enquired what had happened. She was taken aback on hearing her story and made arrangements to bring her mother, who was in her hometown, back to Mumbai," an officer said.
The social worker got in touch with the Malwani police and registered a complaint against the accused. The police arrested the father and booked him on charges of rape and criminal intimidation under the IPC, besides provisions of the Protection Of Children Against Sexual Offenses Act.

A letter from a father to the newsroom asking for help in contacting his daughter comes with a dark twist.
That’s because this wasn’t your typical father and this wasn’t your typical father-daughter relationship.
The writer was Alton E. Smith, who lived in Palm Coast before his arrest and subsequent guilty pleas in 2010 to two counts of incest, one count of living off the earnings of prostitution and 52 counts of possession of child pornography. As part of the plea agreement, Smith also pleaded guilty in Volusia County to another charge of incest and lewd and lascivious exhibition in the presence of a minor younger than 16.
Smith fathered his daughter’s son.
Now-retired Circuit Judge Kim C. Hammond sentenced Smith to 15 years in prison followed by 15 years sex offender probation. And once Smith is released from prison he must register as a sex offender.
The sordid situation came to light after a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detective in 2008 knocked on the door of a house on Carlos Court pretending to answer a Craigslist ad for an escort. Besides having sex with her, Alton Smith was pimping his daughter.
Now, Alton Smith wants to reconnect with his daughter. He also wants a lawyer because , a good one he says, because he wants to sue Flagler County and the judge.
He claims to be dying from the ravages of hepatitis. His biological decay perhaps matching his morality. He said that at 50 he is t0o young too die. He said what went on between him and his daughter was their bond.
“So please Dont Judge us for what happen. This goes on more then people want to know. We new a lot of people who are doing what we were Doing you will never know unless your one of us! We All Have The same Feelings That people wish They had our love Was True Love!”

Boy "disappears" after dad parties with "multiple" women in motel room; where is the mother? (Phoenix, Arizona)
Lots of unanswered questions here. Why did UNNAMED DAD have his 3- and 5-year-old sons with him alone in a motel room? What the hell was Daddy doing partying with these "multiple women" (prostitutes?) while the boys were present? Seems Daddy got drunk, and at least one of the women rolled him (took his wallet), stole his car, and took the youngest kid.
What happened to the mother of these boys? What the hell were they doing with a father like this?

PHOENIX -- The day-long search for three-year-old Stephon San Miguel ended late Thursday night.
According to ABC15 , San Miguel's father passed out inside a Motel 6 near Instate 17 near Indian School Road on Thanksgiving Day. When he woke up at 1:30 p.m., San Miguel's father's wallet, vehicle and three-year-old child were missing.
He called police at 1:45 p.m, but as day turned to night local officials had trouble locating the young boy.
However, thanks to a woman who called in after seeing a local news report on the missing child, officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department said the child was eventually found unharmed at a house between 25th Avenue and Jefferson.
Despite the company of both his three-year-old and five-year-old children, San Miguel's father was reportedly with multiple women in the motel room Wednesday night.
Two women have been detained regarding the incident. San Miguel's father is also being questioned.

The distraught mother of a missing girl kidnapped three years ago wept yesterday as she told of fears she may have been sold on the black market in a child trafficking racket.
Former charity worker Gemma Wilkinson, 32, from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, has not seen little Atiya Wilkinson since her third birthday in 2009 when she was snatched by her father in a spiteful act of revenge during a planned day trip to the seaside.
Former insurance salesman Razwan Ali Anjum, 28, who was livid at being spurned by Gemma, jetted off to his native Pakistan with Atiya before contacting her mother saying: 'You’ll never see your daughter again.'
Despite a global inquiry spanning three countries, the youngster has not been heard of since and now it is feared she may have been sold by her father to another family living in Pakistan or Iran.
Anjum returned to the UK less than a fortnight after he flew out and is now serving a fourth consecutive jail term for contempt after defiantly refusing to reveal Atiya’s whereabouts - dismissing Gemma as 'only a birth mother'.
Today on what would be Atiya’s six birthday Miss Wilkinson sobbed as she pleaded for information about what happened to her daughter.
'I pray she’s okay but we don’t have any proof that she’s okay and no proof she is even still alive,' she said. 'It’s been discussed that she could have been sold, but I don’t want to believe it.
'As far as I’m aware she hasn’t been with any family member so I can only assume she’s with strangers.
'To know that she’s safe, to know that she’s being looked after, to know where she is. A child doesn’t disappear, doesn’t evaporate. A child is put somewhere and people know - and that information needs to be talked about.'
Gemma met Anjum in 2003 while they were on the same college course at Oldham Business Management School and Atiya was born on November 7, 2006.
But Gemma ended her on/off relationship with Anjum in 2008 due to him being possessive and controlling and he swore revenge on her.
During an access visit on the youngster’s birthday he said he was taking Atiya to Southport but instead, he took her to Lahore where he claimed she was staying for a week with relatives.
Atiya was supposed to share a flight with her grandmother on November 16, but the grandmother came back alone. Anjum himself returned to the UK on November 20 without his daughter and he was subsequently arrested.
He claimed he handed Atiya to a mystery man called Khan and taken to Iran but an address for the shady Mr Fixit proved to be false.
Gemma said: 'It’s been an absolute nightmare. When I close my eyes I see Atiya. I say good night to her every night before bed.
'I just want Atiya back home but her father’s just not prepared to back down - he’s not prepared to work with the police. He’s enjoying playing his controlling mind games.
'It’s just sick.'
She added: 'We haven’t celebrated her birthday since she went missing but I’ve bought her presents each year - they are waiting for her to open when she comes home.
'On the day she went missing she was due to spend some time with Razwan. She was picked up by her uncle and taken to go see him. She was due to come back the next day and spend some time with her family opening presents.
'I had no reason to believe that she was at any risk. There had been a standard routine, there hadn’t been any problems with the arrangements. I really don’t know where she is.
'It looks as though she’s still in Pakistan. Razwan is refusing to say where she is, who she’s with and he won’t say anything other than she’s in Iran yet originally she was in Pakistan.
'He won’t give the actual location of where she is. He’s doing this because he has control over me. He had sent abusive text messages after our relationship ended and the last control he would have had over me was to hurt me through Aitya - he knows she’s everything to me.
'I think he would be boasting about what he’s doing in prison, to make himself feel good about the control he has over us. I would do anything to get her back. I just want to know where she is, how she is,' she added.
'We’ve been trying to arrange meetings with his family but they don’t want to communicate with me.
'The police have tried to ask them for information, but they aren’t willing to cooperate. I don’t know any of his family over in Pakistan.
'I think someone in the community around the family knows something. I’m hoping the information that is known could be given so we know Aitya is safe, we know she is alive and that she’s at least settled.
'It shouldn’t be a game of control. I will be thinking about her on Tuesday, thinking about what she’s doing and who she’s with. She has a loving, doting family waiting for her. He shouldn’t be able to play games with children’s lives. We just want her home.' Police have launched a fresh appeal for information about Atiya's whereabouts.
Ajum, who has a son from a previous relationship, has been the subject of several civil court actions ordering him to disclose where Atiya is but he supplied false information.

The distraught mother of a missing girl kidnapped three years ago wept yesterday as she told of fears she may have been sold on the black market in a child trafficking racket.
Former charity worker Gemma Wilkinson, 32, from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, has not seen little Atiya Wilkinson since her third birthday in 2009 when she was snatched by her father in a spiteful act of revenge during a planned day trip to the seaside.
Former insurance salesman Razwan Ali Anjum, 28, who was livid at being spurned by Gemma, jetted off to his native Pakistan with Atiya before contacting her mother saying: 'You’ll never see your daughter again.'
Despite a global inquiry spanning three countries, the youngster has not been heard of since and now it is feared she may have been sold by her father to another family living in Pakistan or Iran.
Anjum returned to the UK less than a fortnight after he flew out and is now serving a fourth consecutive jail term for contempt after defiantly refusing to reveal Atiya’s whereabouts - dismissing Gemma as 'only a birth mother'.
Today on what would be Atiya’s six birthday Miss Wilkinson sobbed as she pleaded for information about what happened to her daughter.
'I pray she’s okay but we don’t have any proof that she’s okay and no proof she is even still alive,' she said. 'It’s been discussed that she could have been sold, but I don’t want to believe it.
'As far as I’m aware she hasn’t been with any family member so I can only assume she’s with strangers.
'To know that she’s safe, to know that she’s being looked after, to know where she is. A child doesn’t disappear, doesn’t evaporate. A child is put somewhere and people know - and that information needs to be talked about.'
Gemma met Anjum in 2003 while they were on the same college course at Oldham Business Management School and Atiya was born on November 7, 2006.
But Gemma ended her on/off relationship with Anjum in 2008 due to him being possessive and controlling and he swore revenge on her.
During an access visit on the youngster’s birthday he said he was taking Atiya to Southport but instead, he took her to Lahore where he claimed she was staying for a week with relatives.
Atiya was supposed to share a flight with her grandmother on November 16, but the grandmother came back alone. Anjum himself returned to the UK on November 20 without his daughter and he was subsequently arrested.
He claimed he handed Atiya to a mystery man called Khan and taken to Iran but an address for the shady Mr Fixit proved to be false.
Gemma said: 'It’s been an absolute nightmare. When I close my eyes I see Atiya. I say good night to her every night before bed.
'I just want Atiya back home but her father’s just not prepared to back down - he’s not prepared to work with the police. He’s enjoying playing his controlling mind games.
'It’s just sick.'
She added: 'We haven’t celebrated her birthday since she went missing but I’ve bought her presents each year - they are waiting for her to open when she comes home.
'On the day she went missing she was due to spend some time with Razwan. She was picked up by her uncle and taken to go see him. She was due to come back the next day and spend some time with her family opening presents.
'I had no reason to believe that she was at any risk. There had been a standard routine, there hadn’t been any problems with the arrangements. I really don’t know where she is.
'It looks as though she’s still in Pakistan. Razwan is refusing to say where she is, who she’s with and he won’t say anything other than she’s in Iran yet originally she was in Pakistan.
'He won’t give the actual location of where she is. He’s doing this because he has control over me. He had sent abusive text messages after our relationship ended and the last control he would have had over me was to hurt me through Aitya - he knows she’s everything to me.
'I think he would be boasting about what he’s doing in prison, to make himself feel good about the control he has over us. I would do anything to get her back. I just want to know where she is, how she is,' she added.
'We’ve been trying to arrange meetings with his family but they don’t want to communicate with me.
'The police have tried to ask them for information, but they aren’t willing to cooperate. I don’t know any of his family over in Pakistan.
'I think someone in the community around the family knows something. I’m hoping the information that is known could be given so we know Aitya is safe, we know she is alive and that she’s at least settled.
'It shouldn’t be a game of control. I will be thinking about her on Tuesday, thinking about what she’s doing and who she’s with. She has a loving, doting family waiting for her. He shouldn’t be able to play games with children’s lives. We just want her home.' Police have launched a fresh appeal for information about Atiya's whereabouts.
Ajum, who has a son from a previous relationship, has been the subject of several civil court actions ordering him to disclose where Atiya is but he supplied false information.

We've posted on this case before. Now we're supposed to feel sorry for poor widdle Daddy, who murdered his two young sons. Jurors who convicted Andre Leteve of Scottsdale last week for fatally shooting his two sons are scheduled begin hearing evidence Monday on whether the crimes warrant the death penalty.
Leteve, 40, faces anywhere from life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years to the death penalty for the premeditated murders of his sons, Asher, 1, and Alec, 5 in March 2010.
Jurors are expected to be busy until Dec. 20 hearing arguments and weighing evidence relating to the severity of Leteve’s sentence.
At 10:30 a.m. Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court, jurors are scheduled to hear opening arguments on whether aggravating factors existed when he murdered his sons.
Subsequently, the defense will present witnesses and evidence they hope will convince jurors that Leteve’s life is worth saving, said Maria Schaffer, his defense attorney.
Leteve admitted killing his children, but defense attorney Greg Parzych argued that the crime was born of enormous stress and was not premeditated. In convicting Leteve of first-degree murder, instead of second-degree murder, the jury determined the crimes were premeditated.
Among evidence of premeditation were three suicide notes that Leteve left his former wife, Laurie, who was divorcing him after learning he had slept with 27 prostitutes. Prosecutors said Leteve committed the crime to punish his wife for leaving him.
“Enjoy the rest of your life without us,” one note said in part.
After shooting his sons with a .38 caliber gun he purchased the day his wife filed for divorce, Leteve tried unsuccessfully to commit suicide by shooting himself in the chin, attorneys say. He has since undergone at least 10 surgeries to repair his face, Schaffer said. She said Leteve looks little like he did before the murders.
Defense attorneys concede that jurors are likely to find at least one aggravating factor in the murders of the two children. Among aggravating factors the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is seeking is that Leteve was an adult at the time of the offense and the victims were under 15.
The defense will ask the jury to find more than 20 mitigating factors, including that Leteve was an alcoholic who suffered from a mental illness and self-medicated with drugs, according to a defense pleading.
Leteve was a good employee, father, son and provider who suffered emotional abuse and neglect as a child, the pleading says.
Schaffer intends to call dozens of witnesses in the mitigation phase of the trial.
“We have a lot of say about his life and this is a crucial part of the case,” Schaffer said.
Schaffer two years ago defended Samuel Dieteman, who was facing the death penalty but received life in prison for his part in the “Serial Shooter” killing spree that took the lives of eight people in the Phoenix area.
On July 29, 2009, a jury sentenced Dieteman to life without parole but spared him the death penalty.

The man had been charged with 31 counts of felony rape in western Ohio's Miami County, where he had been caring for the three boys and a girl in his home. Authorities have said that the 40-year-old man had adopted all of the children except for one of the boys, whom he was in the process of adopting.
The Associated Press isn't naming the man to protect the identities of the children, whose ages range from 9 to 12.
Miami County prosecutors agreed to drop 25 counts and recommend a sentence of 60 years to life in prison in return for the adoptive father's guilty plea Thursday to six counts of rape. The man could have faced life in prison without the possibility for parole.
Attorney Nick Gounaris, representing the adoptive father, said Friday that one of the main considerations for his client taking the plea agreement was that "it will keep his children from having to testify in court against him."
Prosecutor Gary Nasal said that "first and foremost in our minds is the health, safety and wellbeing — both physical and psychological — of the children."
He said another factor leading to the agreement was that the adoptive father agreed to testify in the trial of Jason Zwick, who is accused of raping one of the three boys who was in the adoptive father's care.
The trial for Zwick, 30, of Beaver Creek, had been scheduled for next week but has been continued to a later date to be set by the judge. The adoptive father still faces seven related charges of rape of a child under 13 and complicity to rape in nearby Montgomery County. Gounaris declined to comment on whether any plea agreement was under consideration there.
Montgomery County prosecutor's spokesman Greg Flannagan in Dayton said that the most current information he had was that the adoptive father was still scheduled for a Dec. 10 trial.
Zwick and Patrick Rieder, 32, of Dayton, also were arrested earlier this year on rape charges related to what authorities say was the prostitution of a boy under the age of 13 in meetings arranged by the adoptive father.
Rieder was indicted on four counts of rape of a child under 13 after authorities said the adoptive father took the boy to Rieder's home and both men engaged in sexual conduct with him.
Rieder was indicted last week in Montgomery County on child pornography charges that include more than 40 counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.
Attorneys for Zwick and Rieder did not immediately return calls for comment Friday.

Custodial dad jailed for two years for repeatedly beating 13-year-old daughter (Gwangju, Korea)
Doesn't matter what country or culture you're in. The stories are pretty much the same.
Dad--identified only as KIM--was obviously an abuser from the beginning. He battered his wife, and yet--as we see in nearly every country--HE GOT CUSTODY ANYWAY. So of course, this sh** then starts beating his daughter. REPEATEDLY. The daughter reports Daddy to CPS. THREE TIMES. NOTHING HAPPENS. There are threats to kill her, to traffic her sexually.
Finally, Daddy is caught by a witness. Because we never believe the mother or children alone, do we. And finally, Mom has custody again. Of a no doubt severely traumatized child.
This could be Kalamazoo or Kansas City. In this case, it's Korea. Same difference.

In ruling, Judge considers potential long-term effects of abuse on children

“Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of life’s longing for itself… Though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.”
Judge Lee Tan-hee of the Gwangju District Criminal Court quoted these lines from the 1923 book “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) in sentencing a father to two years in prison for beatings and injuries to his 13-year-old daughter.
The father, a man in his forties identified by the surname Kim, had been raising the child by himself since a divorce.
Lee recommended the book to Kim because of concerns about the emotional scarring on his two children. In its ruling, the court said the “loss of autonomous problem-solving capabilities must be sternly punished, if only to protect the children.” T
he court also recognized the possibility that “rage will take root deep in the hearts of the abused children and, if left alone, could lead to larger crimes.”
Kim had been living with his daughter and son since a November 2008 divorce. The father, who had received a summary order for a fine after twice being indicted for violence against his now ex-wife, began subjecting his daughter to abusive treatment.
He was indicted for abuse and injury after inflicting violence on at least fourteen occasions through the first half of 2011, including a March 2011 incident when he beat her at a Gwangju apartment. He continued the abuse after his daughter’s leg was put in a cast following a traffic accident. In the process, he broke a glass bottle on the living room floor and pushed her over, resulting in glass shards becoming embedded in her foot.
Kim was also found to have used abusive and menacing language. On one occasion, he threatened her with a knife and said, “Let’s both die together.” On others, he told her she should “become a bar girl” and “meet some guy and use your body.”
Kim’s daughter made three separate reports to child protection services and notified her school and the police. But they failed to follow through after the father adamantly protested and lied that he had never used abusive language.
Another opportunity to report the abuse to police came in June 2011 when Kim’s daughter attempted to run away from home to escape the abuse and happened to be witnessed by a counselor, who helped her contact them.
After the incident, the mother successfully sued the father for changes to custody and parental rights. Since then, she and the daughter have been living in Seoul.

Read this carefully. Dad WILLIAM THOMAS apparently had CUSTODY of his two youngest kids (He had four altogether, with three different women.) We finally hear it mentioned--strictly in passing--that the non-custodial mother of the youngest child "appears to have left the family to move back to Japan for some reason." Appears?? You mean, you don't know for sure? And moved that far away "for some reason"? You mean, you don't know why? Lazy, lazy reporting.
Let's see. Dad runs four brothels and it appears that Mom is Japanese. It doesn't even occur to anybody that she may have been the victim of sex trafficking? Or violence? Daddy was already in arrears on child support, apparently for the older kids. He certainly had the motivation to strip this mother of her child and have her deported. Or fleeing back to her own country for her own personal safety. Really, nobody thinks a pimp is capable of such acts? That his "line of work" is merely embarrassing?

A Brooklyn father was arrested for running four brothels in New York City this month. Four, count 'em, four brothels. I know we like entrepreneurs in this country, but wow ... William Thomas lived a quiet life with his two youngest kids in an apartment across from a leafy park in a middle-class neighborhood. His arrest came as a huge surprise to everyone who knew him.
Thomas is the father of four kids by three different mothers: A 1-year-old, a 3-year-old, and two teens. I feel for all these kids, but especially for Thomas' teenagers. They're old enough to know what "brothel" means. Did they have a clue that their dad, a former IT specialist who started out in a nice, big house in the 'burbs, was allegedly a pimp?
"Awesome dad! way to make the thomas family proud," the New York Post reports Thomas' 11th-grade son tweeted. "Pretty surreal to hear your dad’s name on the news in connection to a massive prostitution ring bust. had to happen eventually i guess #meh," he added. I guess it's legal to republish the tweets of a minor who is not a public figure -- honestly, it kind of makes me squirm, which is why I'm not linking back to his Twitter account or mentioning his first name. But these quotes say it all: The sarcastic bravado used to cloak a kid's shame and embarrassment.
Thomas has already been through two divorces, and the mother of his youngest child appears to have left the family to move back to Japan for some reason. Who knows how a guy gets into the brothel biz. But it's got to be humiliating for the two oldest kids to have their dad tied with a prostitution ring.
Whether or not you think prostitution should be legalized, it's still a profession with sleazy reputation, and even in liberal New York City, it would carry a stigma. On top of that, their dad has been accused of a crime. Of course, it could turn out that the police have the wrong guy! Thomas may be totally innocent of the charges.
But for now his poor kids have to live in the shadow of this alleged crime, and that sucks for them. I'm sure Thomas was justifying what he did in order to support his family (-ish, the Post reports he was $100,000 behind in child support payments). But I wish he'd thought about the potential emotional impact on his kids if he ever got caught.

Dad's child sex-trafficking trial under way (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)
If even half these allegations are true, VAN LAWSON WILLIAMS is a total scumbag.
But I want to call your attention to some relatively unnoticed detail here. It seems to me that this father must be single, as there is no mention of a mother in the home. I know that sometimes, a molester daddy can keep his abuse of a minor child a secret from the mom. But it's hard to believe any relatively alert woman wouldn't have seen what was going on with all these girls. And if she had done nothing to stop all this, it seems she would have been charged with something. So I'm inclined to think there was no mother under this roof.
So the reference to one of these trafficked girls acting as a babysitter to Daddy's 7-year-old daughter? I'm thinking that either Williams had custodial rights and/or visitation. Of course, the reporter doesn't clarify what was going on here.
Sure would look bad for somebody in family court to admit that they let somebody like this have custody/visitation, yes? And with a father like this, I fear for what this sh** did to his own kid....

WEST PALM BEACH — A Fort Lauderdale father methodically recruited runaway girls, one just 12 years old, to work as prostitutes for him, a federal prosecutor told jurors Monday.
Van Lawson Williams, 49, would take troubled children into his home, offering them a place to stay in exchange for them selling their bodies, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Steinberg as Williams' federal sex-trafficking trial got under way.
The girls got word of Williams and his house in the 2000 block of Northwest 30th Avenue through other youths at group homes and treatment centers, according to federal authorities. Steinberg said Williams clearly knew the runaways he was taking in were underage, plying them with money, marijuana and crack cocaine.
"They look like kids. They talk like kids. They act like kids," said Steinberg of the six girls lined up to testify against Williams. The girls ranged in age from 12 to 16 when they met Williams, who is the father of a young girl.
Williams is charged with four counts of sex trafficking of minors and two counts of attempted sex trafficking of minors. If he is convicted of any of the charges, he could face up to life in prison.
Williams' attorney, Howard Greitzer, urged the jury to carefully evaluate the girls' testimony to see how much it has changed since they first talked to law enforcement.
He said that one of the girls initially told law enforcement that she never prostituted herself, but babysat Williams' 7-year-old daughter. He argued that the case rests on the girls' testimony with federal authorities lacking physical evidence to support their case.
"Use your common sense," he said.
Steinberg said Williams found girls who were "lost" and "damaged" and gave them what they craved most — attention. He let them live with him, fed them and offered to buy them clothes and pay to get their hair and nails done, she said.
"In order to stay there [at the house] you had to sleep with the men he provided," Steinberg said.
Williams set the prices to have sex with the girls, oftentimes providing clients with condoms, Steinberg said. Federal authorities allege that sometimes Williams would split the money with the girls and sometimes he would pocket all of it.
Federal authorities have alleged in court records that if the girls refused to do what Williams said, he would physically abuse them.
In addition to the girls' testimony, federal prosecutors have indicated they intend to play audio recordings to the jury of Williams talking to two underage girls. The FBI had the girls place the phone calls, with Williams telling one of the youths, "If you come to me you mine," according to court records.
Prosecutors also have indicated they have text messages sent by Williams about prostitution activity.
The girls are scheduled to start testifying Tuesday in the case before U.S. District Judge Daniel T.K. Hurley.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Police arrested 17 people in a two-day prostitution sting along Ridgewood Avenue this week, including a father who had his 3-year-old daughter with him at the time.
The sting, conducted Thursday and Friday, resulted in arrests of eight men and nine women, according to police reports released today.
The men included Jamie Esposito, the 27-year-old Orlando father who had a toddler in his SUV when he drove up to an undercover police officer posing as a prostitute.
"I know you got your baby, so I'll make it quick," the officer said, according to an arrest report. After agreeing on a price and arranging to go inside a hotel room, the officer told Esposito he could bring his daughter inside to watch TV during the encounter, the report said.
In addition to solicitation of prostitution, Esposito was charged with child neglect, police said. His daughter was released to her grandfather.
Police said the stings are part of a continuing effort to clean up the city's part of Ridgewood Avenue. Many of the arrests were made in areas around Fremont Avenue and Wilder Boulevard.
Other men charged:
Donald Brown of DeBary, Frederick Bismarck of Daytona Beach, Jason Burns of Palm Coast, Herbert Foster of Eustis, Valdimar Sigfusson of Ormond Beach, Stephen Hagg of Port Orange and Stephen Adams of Ormond Beach.
All were charged with solicitation to commit prostitution, and Foster was also charged with resisting arrest after he ran from police.
The women charged with solicitation of prostitution were:
Wanda Bratcher, Kara Pennington, Adrianna Gardner, Heather Mishook and Gertie Kearse, all of Daytona Beach, Darlene Dixon and Jennifer Lahive of Holly Hill and Jessica Walker of Palmetto, Ga.
Another woman, Shannon DeAngelis of St. Augustine, was charged with solicitation of a lewd act after police said she demanded an officer expose himself -- to prove he wasn't a cop before she got in his car.

Troy police have said the 39-year-old man regularly raped the three boys at his home in a quiet residential neighborhood of ranch homes in Troy, a city of 25,000 residents.
The man is being represented by the public defender's office, which didn't immediately return a request for comment.
Messages left after hours Thursday at the public defender's office and the Miami County prosecutor's office were not immediately returned.
Two other men were arrested earlier on rape charges related to what authorities say was the prostitution of a 10-year-old boy by the Troy man. Officials say the Troy man adopted three children, including a 9-year-old girl, and was in the process of adopting a fourth child.

A Penticton father has been charged with pimping out his underage daughter for sex to at least three men, including a local mayoral candidate.
The 46-year-old father was arrested July 22 and has been charged with nine counts, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation, living off the avails of prostitution and a parent or guardian procuring sexual activity for a child under 18.
The man has not been identified due to a publication ban. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing in September.
Police are also keeping mum on the age of the girl - who is receiving support from victim services and social workers - in order to protect her identity.
Police began investigating the father in May after receiving a tip a young girl had been sexually victimized, RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Annie Linteau said Thursday.
"We are continuing the investigation and it's possible other arrests could be made."
So far, three men - aged 34, 63 and 67 - have been arrested for allegedly receiving sexual services from the girl.
Police have not released their names, pending approval of charges, but one man - a fringe political candidate who plans to run for Penticton mayor in the fall - has come forward to admit he was a client of the girl.
Benny Wolfe, 67, said he met the girl and her pimp at a bus-stop bench. He said he asked the girl's age and hired her after he was told she is of legal age.
"She was reasonable, $100 for an hour of her time," said Wolfe, who claims he is innocent because he did not know the girl was underage.
In a letter to the editor published last week in the Penticton Herald, Wolfe said police arrested him on July 30 in front of the giant peach near Okanagan Lake for allegedly procuring the sexual services of a minor.
The alleged offence wasn't violent, Wolfe said, and that "what I have alleged to have done may not be acceptable to the majority of law-abiding citizens but I take full responsibility for anything I do in life and what I do in my personal life has nothing to do with my public life."
Wolfe and the two other men were released on the condition they not be in the presence of anyone under the age of 18. They are scheduled to appear in court in September and October.

Benny Wolfe, 67, said he met the girl and her pimp at a bus-stop bench. He said he asked the girl's age and hired her after he was told she is of legal age.
"She was reasonable, $100 for an hour of her time," said Wolfe, who claims he is innocent because he did not know the girl was underage.
In a letter to the editor published last week in the Penticton Herald, Wolfe said police arrested him on July 30 in front of the giant peach near Okanagan Lake for allegedly procuring the sexual services of a minor.
The alleged offence wasn't violent, Wolfe said, and that "what I have alleged to have done may not be acceptable to the majority of law-abiding citizens but I take full responsibility for anything I do in life and what I do in my personal life has nothing to do with my public life."
Wolfe and the two other men were released on the condition they not be in the presence of anyone under the age of 18. They are scheduled to appear in court in September and October.

KOBLENZ, Germany (AP) — A German court on Tuesday convicted a man who fathered eight children with his stepdaughter of scores of counts of sexual abuse and sentenced him to 14 years, 6 months in prison.
The court found 48-year-old defendant, identified only as Detlef S., guilty of 162 counts of sexually abusing his children and forcing his daughter and stepdaughter into prostitution between 1987 and 2010.
He has confessed to the charges.
Detlef S., whose last name was withheld because of German privacy laws, first began molesting his daughter when she was nine, and after her 12th birthday party he regularly sexually assaulted her, the DAPD news agency reported.
Detlef S. had already been abusing his twin stepchildren, who are now 28. He started in 1987 when they were only four years old, and continued until 2010.
DNA samples confirmed Detlef S., a truck driver who lived in Fluterschen near Bonn, fathered seven of his stepdaughter's children. An eighth child passed away before DNA tests could be done, but he later admitted to fathering all eight children.
Shortly before the court announced the verdict, stepson Bjoern B., a co-plaintiff in the trial, told reporters that "Today is the day of truth, the day of justice."
"We have waited 13 years for this day," Bjoern B. said of himself and his siblings who were also abused by Detlef S.
Germany's Bild newspaper has called the suspect the "German Fritzl" — a reference to Europe's most infamous case of incest. Austrian Josef Fritzl was found guilty in 2009 of locking his daughter in a dungeon for 24 years and fathering seven children with her. He is serving a life sentence.

In a case that has sent shockwaves through Germany, a father has unexpectedly confessed to hundreds of counts of sexually abusing his children. Detlef S. admitted to "behaving in a fundamentally wrong manner," his lawyer told the court in Koblenz on Monday.
The lawyers of the accused have asked for a prison sentence of nine and a half years, and opposed the inclusion of preventive custody in the sentence, saying their client did not pose a danger to the general public because all the crimes took place within the family.
In the previous week, the public prosecutor had called for a prison sentence of 14 years and six months with preventive custody to follow afterwards. Preventive custody aims to stop someone from committing further crimes, but is not imposed as a punishment in itself.

Court: Dad had 7 children with stepdaughter (Berlin, Germany)
Notice that while this dad--identified only as DETLEF S.--is accused of fathering 7 children with his stepdaughter, he's also accused of sexually abusing his own daughter. And forcing both girls into prostitution. Just goes to scum is scum, and doesn't discriminate on account of DNA. Notice that there is no mention of a mother in this home, either. Was there one?

The man, identified only as Detlef S. in line with German privacy rules, is charged with sexually abusing minors in his care in a town near Bonn between 1987 and 2010, and with facilitating sexual acts with minors, Koblenz court spokesman Alexander Walter said.
The suspect is accused of abusing his daughter and stepdaughter himself, and of forcing both to have sex with other men for money. Two of those men also face charges and will be tried separately, Walter said.
"He is accused of grave sexual abuse of minors," he said.
Detlef S. has been in custody since August after his daughter came forward to authorities, Walter said. The case was first reported by a local newspaper Thursday and the court spokesman said it was not made public before in a bid to protect the victims.

"I have no information as to how this child died," he added, without elaborating.

Dad, prostitute "girlfriend" arrested for abandoning 9-month-old baby in street (San Antonio, Texas)
Excuse me while I try to wrap my head around this. Dad RICHARD MENDOZA takes his 9-month-old son with him to a motel to visit his "girlfriend" (a convicted prostitute). Daddy presumably leaves the baby with the "girlfriend" while he goes out for beer, and when he comes back, the two of them are gone. The baby is later found abandoned in a street with signs of abuse (facial bruising).
So why the hell did Daddy have possession of this infant at all? Did he have visitation or custody? Did he simply take the child? Police won't release information on the whereabouts of the baby's mother. Of course not.

Baby found alone near alley
SAN ANTONIO -- A 9-month-old boy was found abandoned in a street Monday night. The boy's father and the father's girlfriend have been arrested, but investigators are still trying to determine exactly who left the baby in the street.
Police officers found the boy around 11:00 p.m. sitting in the middle of the road right off an alleyway just off Liberty, near the Sunrise Motel on South Presa. The officers said it looked like the baby had been abused. He reportedly had bruises on his head, one on his eye, and some around his face.
The baby's father, 23-year-old Richard Mendoza, and his girlfriend, 43-year-old Martha Alemon, have both been charged with child endangerment. Mendoza told police he was at the motel last night with his baby and Alemon, who is a convicted prostitute. He said he left to to get some beer and when he came back, his son and Alemon were gone.
Witnesses told police they saw Alemon walking with a baby, but investigators said it's still not clear if she's the one who abandoned the boy.
Police haven't released information about the whereabouts of the child's mother.
The baby was checked out at the hospital and is now at the Children's Shelter.
