Father charged after attempted 2nd-degree murder of son

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) -- Police have arrested and charged a man for attempted second-degree murder of his two-month-old son, officials said.

Adou Louis Kouadio, 24, has been charged with one count of attempt second degree murder and two counts of first degree child abuse, police said.

On Feb. 4, the two-month-old baby Amir Iman-Kouadio was brought into Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

He was unresponsive and listed in critical condition, police said. He had no pulse when he was brought in and was suffering from head trauma and rib fractures. The father of the child could not provide any explanation to the boy's injuries, officials said.

Upon further investigation, officials said the child's mother put him to bed around 9:00 p.m. on Feb. 3. Around 2:00 a.m., the father of the child, Kouadio was woken up by the baby's cry's. He said he cared for the child and put him back to bed. When he checked on the child, he found blood coming from his nose. He said he notified the mother, officials said.

On Feb. 20, an arrest warrant was obtained for Kouadio. He turned himself in and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.

Doctors advised that if the child were to survive, he would have to remain on a ventilator for the rest of his life.
