Police arrest man accused of jumping out of 2nd story window with 2-week-old

PITTSBURGH — Investigators spent several hours searching for a man who ran from police with his 2-week-old baby early Monday morning.

The child’s mother told Channel 11 News that 32-year-old Justin Comans jumped out of a window in East Liberty, with the child strapped onto his body in a baby carrier, when police attempted to serve a protection from abuse order on him.

The child’s mother, Shilina Davis, said she and Comans got into an argument early Monday morning. Davis said she then filed an emergency PFA on him. When police arrived to serve Comans with the order, investigators said he jumped out of the home’s second-floor window.

“I am patiently waiting and hoping that he will come to his sense and bring him [the baby] home, where he needs to be,” Davis said. “Please bring him home.”

Comans was arrested several hours later at a home in Pittsburgh’s Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood.

“Picture that – someone kidnapped their own kid,” Comans said as he was being led out of police headquarters. “This is not fair. I didn’t take my own son with my own name.”

The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh to be checked for injuries. Pittsburgh police Cmdr. Scott Schubert said the baby did not appear to be injured.

Schubert said Comans will be charged with endangering the welfare of a child and kidnapping.
