Dad charged after toddler found wandering the streets (Chenango, New York)

Yet another case where Mom had to work to keep a roof over everybody's head, while the "caretaker" (deadbeat?) dad slept all day.

The sleeping dad is identified as MARK R. GRANT.

Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A local father was arrested Monday after passersby found a 23-month-old child wandering alone on Upper Front Street.

The boy was found near The Spot restaurant, 1062 Upper Front St.

Residents nearby told the sheriff's office the child was carrying a toy ball and a set of keys, which deputies used to try and contact the child's family.

A phone number on the keys led deputies to the child's grandparent in Chenango Bridge, who provided the name and address of the boy's father, Mark R. Grant, 26, of Binghamton.

Grant was reportedly asleep at the time of the incident and unaware the child was wandering alone for nearly an hour. The child's mother was at work and also unaware of the situation.

Grant was arrested and taken into custody on charges for endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor. He was released after being arraigned in the Town of Chenango Court and will appear at a later date. A report was filed with Child Protective Services.

The child was unharmed and turned over to his mother.
