Dad arrested for striking 2-year-old son (Port Charlotte, Florida)

Dad TONY L. ROBERTSON really laid into this kid--his belt beating left bruises all over his 2-year-old son's body, including on his chest and abdomen. And all because this little boy was trying to put something into an electrical outlet? Let me introduce you all to a radical concept: toddler proofing your home. That means it's up to you as a parent to PREVENT these things from happening, rather than beating a curious toddler after the fact. Also, look into something called child-proof electrical OUTLET COVERS. Maybe Mom knew about these things? Wait, there's no mention of Mom in this story anywhere, is there? In fact, the little boy went straight into Florida DCF custody--with no mention of Mom at all. Curious, that....

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

Father arrested on child abuse charge

PORT CHARLOTTE — A man was arrested after he allegedly admitted to striking his 2-year-old son with a leather belt.

The toddler reportedly suffered multiple bruises on his body and was treated at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte — where his father brought him in four days following the incident — before being released into the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s report.

Tony L. Robertson, 29, of the 18300 block of Quadrille Avenue, in Port Charlotte, was charged with cruelty to a child. He was held without bond at the Charlotte County Jail.

Robertson first told a Charlotte County Sheriff’s investigator that his son suffered bruises while at day care, a sheriff’s report stated. Upon further questioning, Robertson admitted to striking his child four or five times with a belt after the toddler attempted to place an object into an electrical outlet, states the report.

At the hospital, the child was treated for his injuries, which included bruising on his right forearm, neck, chest and abdomen.
