LITCHFIELD — Daniel Losito was arrested Sept. 18. for the alleged third degree assault of a minor, as well as risk of injury.

Mr. Losito appeared in Bantam Superior Court Monday. He signed off on a release to the bail comissioner and must report to the state Department of Children and Families. The case was continued until Oct. 14.

Mr. Losito, 30, 59 Calhoun St. Apt. 3, Washington, was at home on Aug. 29 when the alleged assault occurred. After an investigation, there was probable cause to believe that Mr. Losito assaulted a minor by striking him in the face with a broom more than once, resulting in an injury. Mr. Losito was subsequently charged with third degree assault, risk of injury as well as making a false statement.

Mr. Losito claimed that there was an accident and that shortly after he repremanded the victim for spilling cereal on the floor of their apartment. “I cleaned up the cereal, spanked (the victim) and then went outside for a smoke,” Mr. Losito told State Police. “While outside I heard (the victim) screaming, so I came running in and saw his lip bleeding and blood everywhere.”

After hearing the story, Amber Losito, Daniel’s wife, was suspicious because of previous violence that occurred between Mr. Losito and the victim.

Mrs. Losito told police that, in the past, Mr. Losito has attempted to smack (the victim) in the back of the head. She also stated that the victim has attempted to duck out of the way and subsequently hit his face on the edge of the table, breaking his front tooth.

During a Child Abuse Investigation Team interview with the victim, the child clearly identified the perpetrator as Daniel Losito. The minor reported that he had spilled cereal just after he woke up and that his father hit him with a broom. The child also reported that blood went into his mouth after the alleged assault and that he can still feel exactly where his father hit him.

Photographs of the victim obtained by State Police exhibited a visible laceration above the top lip, approximately one a half inches long. The laceration required six stitches.

At first, the victim was reluctant to cooperate with the family and state police because he did not want to see anything happen to Mr. Losito. He knew he would not be able to go to Six Flags with Mr. Losito if he spoke up about the alleged abusive behavior.

The child stated to Amber Losito that Daniel Losito said, “Don’t tell what happened or you won’t go to Six Flags because I will go to jail.” Mrs. Losito then conveyed this message to State Police.

Amber Losito informed police that her husband has a history of using drugs and that he drinks very heavily.

Based on the history of random narcotic use by Mr. Losito, the social worker recommended random drug testing be authorized for the safety of the victim.
