Dad charged with leaving 4-year-old son in car while he went to bar (Bridgeport, PA)

Dad DAVID HOPFER is facing child endangerment charges after he "allegedly" left his 4-year-old son alone in an unlocked car while Daddy went to a bar. Seems there was a little issue concerning some methodone in Daddy's possession too. Thank goodness the boy is now safe with Mom. But why was he out with Dad anyway? Seems a lot of these situations end up involving visitation, but the circumstances behind these arrests are seldom spelled out clearly.

BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. -- A 41-year-old man is facing charges after police said he left his sleeping 4-year-old son alone in a car while he went into a Bridgeville bar.

Police said David Hopfer's car was in a no-parking zone in front of the Markee Lounge on Tuesday. Then an officer spotted the child inside the unlocked vehicle, police said.

According to police, Hopfer went inside to buy beer. After his arrest, police said they found methadone in a pill bottle labeled for a different prescription.

Hopfer is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 bail.

The child is now in the custody of his mother.
