Trumaine Ollie pleaded guilty on Monday in Ramsey County District Court to one felony and two gross-misdemeanor counts of malicious punishment of a child.

Ollie, 25, of St. Paul, brought his 5-year-old son to Regions Hospital in St. Paul on Feb. 9 with third-degree burns severe enough to need skin grafts, the complaint said. Ollie told the staff that the boy had accidentally spilled hot water on himself.

The complaint said the boy told medical staff that he was burned when his father put him in the bathtub. He said he was being punished for going in the candy jar.

Police later learned that Ollie's other 5-year-old, apparently the burned child's twin, had marks, scars, bruises and cuts over his body from being whipped with a cord. A third boy, age 6, also had scars from being whipped but refused to tell officers who had caused them. Ollie will be sentenced Aug. 27.
