Dad charged in death of 8-month-old son (Burnsville, Minnesota)

We posted on this story yesterday, but Dad was unidentified. Now his name is given as JESSE DEAN HUMMEL. Usual story: Dad was babysitting, kid dies. But in this case, Dad didn't even go through the motions of calling Mom or an ambulance. He just abandoned the dying child. Put up quite a fuss when the police tried to apprehend him, too. Is it any surprise that he has a history of domestic violence and child abuse?

Burnsville Father Charged with 8-Month-Old's Death

Father Arrested in Bloomington Baby Death

The father of an eight-month-old boy who was found dead in a Bloomington apartment on Aug. 22 now faces first-degree murder.

Investigators say Jaden Hummel was shaken severely and had several bruises all over his body. The medical examiner ruled Jaden's death was due to 'complex homicidal violence.'

Authorities say Jaden was left in the care of his father, Jesse Dean Hummel, 29, of Burnsville.

The child's mother says she had left the boy and another three-year-old child with Hummel to go shopping in the morning. When she returned, she found Jaden Hummel dead in his crib and his father missing.

Police say they found Hummel under a tree near the apartment building. After refusing to surrender, officers had to use a K-9 in order to apprehend him.

According to criminal records, Hummel has several past convictions including domestic assault and malicious punishment of a child. The victim in that case was Hummel's child with another woman.

If convicted, he faces up to life imprisonment in the latest case.
