PRICHARD, Alabama -- A Mobile man remains in Mobile County Metro Jail without bail after an 11-month-old was found with cocaine in the youngster's system, Police Chief Jimmie Gardner said today.

Carl Edward Crandle, 26, of Mobile, -- the father of the child -- was booked into Metro Jail shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday charged with chemical endangerment of a child, records show.

Gardner said the child was taken to USA Children's and Women's Hospital. Officers later went to an Eight Mile residence where Crandle was arrested.

Authorities are waiting to hear about the status of the child, Gardner said.
