TEMPE, AZ - A father shook his crying infant son to the point of unconsciousness, Tempe police said.
The seven-week-old baby was in his baby carrier on Saturday night when investigators said the father also squeezed the child and smashed his head against the baby carrier’s handlebar.
Omar Contreras-Aguilar, 22, was arrested after his wife came home and alerted authorities.
Contreras-Aguilar was also watching the infant’s twin sibling and another child.
“The baby’s doing better,” said the infant’s mother who spoke to ABC15 through a translator. “They’re taking X-rays on him.”
The mother talked only for a few minutes to ABC15 before heading to the hospital to visit the child.
The family lives in an apartment complex near University Drive and the Loop 101.
Investigators said that Contreras-Aguilar confessed to the abuse.
