POLICE have quizzed a father over the mysterious death of his son.
The Homicide Squad interviewed the man from country Victoria recently for the first time since the 14-week-old died in October.
The baby died eight days after being taken to the Royal Children's Hospital with severe head injuries and a broken leg.
The boy's twin brother was in hospital for two days after suffering minor injuries.
A police media spokeswoman said no charges had been laid.
"The investigation is ongoing," she said.
The surviving child has been returned to his mother, who is living away from the father. The children's parents were living together at the time of the tragedy.
The Department of Human Services became involved with the children after the boy was admitted to hospital.
It launched an investigation into the death alongside the police inquiry.
It had no involvement with the family beforehand.
Police have received initial post-mortem results, but are awaiting further results.
Police have said the child was suffering from several unexplained injuries.
When the boy was taken to a hospital in his home town he was in an "unresponsive" state.
Figures show DHS received 32 reports of child deaths last financial year.
