Beaten by an Inhuman Father.

Nellie Nugent, daughter of James Nugent of 10 Verandah Place, Brooklyn, told a pitiful story of brutality to Justice Tighe yesterday. Nellie's mother was buried Thursday. Her father, who attended the funeral, returned from his wife's grave drunk. Nellie's tears for her dead mother aroused the father's anger. He threatened her with bodily injury if she did not stop weeping. Finding threats were of no avail, Nugent beat the child and struck her in the forehead with a cup. The child ran bleeding and screaming to a neighbor, who protected her from further injury. Nugent escaped from the house, and the police have not been able to find him. Nellie was given to the care of the Children's Society. Superintendent Wilkins will prosecute her father for the assault.
