NHLANGANO-A man estimated to be in his late 50s has been reported to the Gege constituency offices (Inkhundla) by residents for allegedly impregnating his daughter.
The incident happened at Mlindazwe and the girl is about 18 years old. It is said she was a pupil in one of the schools situated within the constituency and was doing Form II when she fell pregnant.
She has since dropped out of school.
It is said the matter was reported two weeks ago by a concerned resident, pleading with the officers to take action.
The girl is said to have confessed to one of her friends that her father impregnated her and had threatened to evict her should she expose him.
Despite family members knowing about the issue, according to the source, it was kept under wraps.
"This is bad for the community because as elders we should lead by example and accord our children respect. This is totally unacceptable and should come a stop," said the source.
During the celebrations of the Day of the African Child last Friday held at Magubheleni High School, Gege Member of Parliament, Musa Kunene, highlighted that the constituency office was investigating a case of abuse against a father alleged to be sexually molesting his daughter and had impregnated her. This is the same constituency where a 47-year-old widow alleged to be HIV positive was reported to the constituency offices for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy doing Form II. The legislator who is also a pastor condemned parents who abuse their children. Gege constituency headman, Philani Dlamini confirmed the report and said they were still waiting for the MP to brief them on how far he had gone with investigations.
When called for comment yesterday, the MP said he was yet to brief the constituency headman first before he could divulge more details to the media.
