Prosecutor: Little girl tortured, starved, neglected by custodial dad, step (St. Clair County, Michigan)

I wish the press would accurately describe the family arrangments under which children are living. This little girl was NOT tortured, starved, and neglected by her "parents." She was tortured, starved, and neglected by her custodial father JOE GALVAN and the step, who were GIVEN custody. Everytime the media uses the word "parents" they erase that this was not a "natural" arrangement in which the child was born (for better or for worse), but an arrangement sanctioned and approved by the state--namely child protective agencies and the family courts. But of course, if we underplay that fact, then those people are less likely to be held responsible for their f*** ups, right?

Prosecutor: Prhaze tortured, starved, neglected by parents

Senior Assistant Prosecutor Melissa Keyes told jurors this morning that Prhaze Galvan was tortured, neglected and starved.

The 3-year-old was isolated from the family and targeted by her father and stepmother, Keyes said.

She said the girl weighed 32 pounds when she died Jan. 15, a month away from her fourth birthday.

Opening statements started this morning shortly after 9 this morning in the jury trial of Joe and Jennifer Galvan.

The Galvans are charged with felony murder, torture, first degree child abuse and possession of marijuana.
