WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WSAU) A Wisconsin Rapids man was sentenced to 9-years in prison and 7-years supervised release for abusing his two-month-old daughter.

At first, 25-year-old Joshua Werner said his daughter was injured by the family dog. Doctors didn't believe him and notified police. The child still suffers from spinal cord injuries, plus damage to her arms and legs. The child is in foster care now.

Werner apologized, saying he was abused as a child and wasn't emotionally prepared to be a parent. Judge James Mason said that was not a valid excuse, and handed down the maximum sentence.
