LONGVIEW, TX - On June 13, 2010 at around 9:00 p.m., Longview Officers responded to the emergency room of Good Shepherd Medical Center for an injury to a child call.

Responding officers met with emergency room staff and were told that a 2-year-old child had been brought in with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her lower extremities. Doctors had assessed the child's injuries and found them to be very severe and life-threatening, so the child was immediately transferred to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Detectives responded to the hospital to interview the child's family, while crime scene investigators responded to the child's home at 1900 South Green Street to search for physical evidence. Detectives were told conflicting stories by the child's parents, but physicians at Parkland Hospital determined the child's injuries were caused by being immersed into hot liquid.
On June 14, 2010 the child's father, Derrick DeMontre Norman was arrested and charged with injury to a child, a 1st degree felony. Norman has been booked into the Gregg County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
