Registered sex offender dad arrested for fracturing skull, ribs of 3-month-old daughter: why was he allowed to change his name? (Lincoln, Nebraska)

What good is a freaking registry of sex offenders when an offender who was CONVICTED of sexual assault of a child ends up "caretaking" for his 3-month-old daughter and her 4-year-old sister 10 years later? Did anybody really think that using a sex offender as a babysitter would turn out well?

Obviously, it didn't. Like a lot of these sh--s, Daddy got "frustrated" so he popped the baby in the head with his elbow and fractured her skull. Doctors found evidence healing rib fractures too, so this was apparently not the first time he had abused her either.

May I respectfully suggest that both children be checked for sexual abuse? Then after that, this POS needs to be kept away from ALL children PERMANENTLY. Although the mom was the one who took the baby to the hospital (not the "frustrated" daddy), she has lost the children to "temporary" protective custody. I wonder if she even knew about Daddy's background. Maybe not with the name change. Why was that allowed?

Lincoln father suspected of elbowing 3-month-old's head

An investigation into how a 3-month-old girl's skull and ribs were fractured has resulted in the arrest of her father, Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood said Wednesday.

Jonathan Michael Znomist, 34, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of child abuse.

On May 7, the infant's mother took her to a hospital after noticing she had a swollen eye.

Flood said further testing by a doctor determined she had suffered a skull fracture and had multiple healing fractured ribs. The injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Flood said police believe that Znomist, 405 N.W. 18th St., got frustrated while caring for the infant and her 4-year-old sister. Police believe he hit the baby in the back of her head with his elbow.

She and her sister have been removed from their home and placed into temporary protective custody, Flood said.

Znomist, who had his name changed from Jonathan Nitz, is on the state's 25-year sex offender registry following a July 2000 conviction in Lancaster County District Court for felony sex assault of a child. He served two years.
