Drugged-out dad charged with neglect for letting 4-year-old wander (Hammond, Indiana)

So what's up with dad ROBERT DANIEL POIRIER? This guy is so freaking stoned he's passed out with dried vomit on his face. And he was also apparently "caretaking" for his 4-year-old son at the same time. Was he "babysitting" while mom was at work? Did he have visitation rights or custody? That's not clarified here. Only that Mom was able to reclaim the boy. Hopefully, he'll be safe with Mom, and Daddy will get his @$$ into rehab and away from children.

A Hammond man has been charged in Lake Superior Court with neglect of a dependent after a woman noticed his 4-year-old wandering in a parking lot.

A police officer recognized the child and knew where the child's father lived, so she visited his home in the 1900 block of Warwick Avenue and found him passed out inside with the front doors standing open.

The officer was unable to wake the father, Robert Daniel Poirier, 30, so she called for an ambulance. Poirier had what appeared to be dried vomit on his face, according to the police report.

Poirier told the officer he had been drinking and taking pills but had no idea how the child got out of the home. The child was found Thursday in the parking lot of the Sokol Club, 1908 Calumet Ave., about a block from Poirier's residence.

The boy was turned over to his mother.

The felony count is punishable by a maximum three-year sentence
