Dad convicted of beating baby to death has history of domestic violence, self-mutilation (San Antonio, Texas)

We've posted on dad JERRY CRISP before, who has been convicted of beating his 10-week-old daughter to death. Now we find out he had a history of self-mutilation and violence against the mother of the murdered baby, but she never notified any authorities. Is anybody really surprised? Any man who abuses women is not safe around children, either.

A San Antonio man convicted of beating his baby to death had a history of domestic violence and self-mutilation, prosecutors alleged Tuesday during the first day of his punishment hearing.

Jerry Christopher Crisp, 25, faces up to life in prison for the April 25, 2005, murder of his 10-week-old daughter, Jayden.

The infant's mother testified Tuesday that she and Crisp occasionally got physical when arguing, but she never told anyone because she wanted to protect him. Another woman who dated Crisp described an argument in which he attempted to cut his own throat, and succeeded in using a shard of glass to create a gaping gash along his arm.

The defendant's friends and family later testified that he was a beaming father who became a new man when Jayden was born.

Jurors will continue hearing testimony for his punishment today.
